Having two extra bodies to turn to when injury or slumps strike makes a huge difference. Not to mention more competition in practice.

Having two extra bodies could also make a huge difference in wear and tear over the season. If Townes could've played 5% less minutes last year, that would be 57 less minutes on his legs. Who knows if playing a game and a half less means that he doesn't get injured at the end of the season and the team goes to the NCAA tournament instead of the NIT?

We had a huge problem with dropping close games and struggling at the end of games in 2016-17 and again last year. Townes especially appeared to suffer from too many minutes. Over the last 13 games of the season, Townes averaged 36.1 minutes per game, and a lot of those contests were very physical. In his last two games, he was 4 for 25 from the field for a combined 11 points. Those two games were the two worst shooting percentage games he had for the year, and the last game was the worst shooting game in his career since his sixth game as a freshman with Fairleigh Dickinson.

Depth means a lot, especially when you can have two players coming off the bench for 20 minutes or so-- essentially starters' minutes. In the Final Four season, we had seven players average 18.9 minutes per game or more (all of them less than 32.9 minutes). Plus, you had two players (Skokna and Satterwhite) who averaged over 10 minutes per game. That's 9 players in double figures. Last year we only had 8 players averaging double figures (Williamson is included, even though he missed more than half the season and most of the conference season). We had two players (Townes and Custer) play an average of over 33 minutes per game, and a center who averaged 28.2 minutes on the court.

As for Uguak, the reason I like him so much is because he's able to play above the rim, a dimension we haven't had for many years. After he stopped shooting from behind the arc and started attacking the basket more often, he had a really good season. It doesn't seem like it, but Uguak had the second best shooting percentage on the team among players who averaged double-digit minutes. If he improves his ball handling a bit and if the team develops some plays to screen for him, he could be a 10 ppg player (he was 5.8 per game last season). If you add that inside, above the rim athleticism to Krutwig's game and players like Williamson, Tate, Kaifes, and Kennedy, we've got a lot of depth. Big Frank and Tom Welch are going to get a lot of important minutes filling in for Krut and Uguak.

But we're also going to be battling a learning curve with the most new players we've had at one time in many years.... I also hope we can toughen up a bit and not let other teams shove us a around with impunity. Lots of fouls to give.....

Major bummer for Cooper and the team. Though he was possibly poised for a major breakout this year.

That sucks. Gonna need Hall and Wojcik to step up as sharp shooters. On the bright side we'll have 3 years or Norris (48% from 3 as a freshman) and Kaifes sharing a back court, as of now the 2023 class is stacked.

PG- Norris
CG- Kennedy
CG- Kaifes
CG/Wing- Wojcik
F/C- Welch

Did they have boot camp again? Any one have info on how this happened? Seems like an odd injury to have multiple guys suffer.

Wow, that is really too bad. Hall's importance to the team just skyrocketed.

Pretty sure the boot camp is always later in the summer. Also this was his hip, not his shoulder, according to Nick Schultz on Twitter.

This one sucks. It’s not a devastating blow for this year, but it’s still a bummer we won’t get to see Cooper take his game to the next level after a great freshman year.

The silver lining is that, we have so much new talent coming in, that it was going to cause a lot of lineup tinkering. Decisions on playing time get a little bit easier for Porter now, and on top of that, we should have a TON of experience going into the 20-21 season. If we develop one or 2 really strong newcomers this year, the year after with Krut, Williamson, and Aher and Cooper coming back is shaping into something that could be special.

Next man up! I’m really hoping one or two of our new guys take advantage, and explode this season.

Completely agree with this. I feel like this is a building/development year more than anything. A lot of talent but so much gel-ing to do with all the new bodies. Gonna be tough to three-peat as regular season champs with so many players learning the league, but it gives more opportunities for a lot of the younger guys, which should lead to a stacked roster when Cooper comes back.

It'll be fun to see how the roster and rotations shake out. Based on Porters MVC press conference I think it's safe to say Keith Clemons will start at point, Porter talked about how he's been a winner at every level, winning a state championship in high school and then a JuCo championship as well. He also compared Tate Hall to Ben Richardson, saying he's got a really high motor on both ends of the court. If nothing else I think this team will be fun to watch, a lot of learning, but hopefully looser, without the constant pressure of "last year" hanging over their heads.
