I do feel a little more comfortable with our 7 point loss (two 3s & a free throw) to St. Louis, than last year's Secret Scrimmage 22 point loss to Indiana (70-48), although I wouldn't put St. Louis in the same class as Indiana.

7 points against a 2019 tournament team from the A10 minus our starting point guard and backup center? Fine by me.

Especially with 9 healthy bodies, including 3 freshman, one running the point.

Too early in the year to be satisfied with moral victories. Let's save the rationalizations and excuses for conference play.
And by the way, I blame poor officiating for the loss to the Billikens.

Well, it’s good to see that someone finally agreed with my line of thinking

I failed to list a player being "run off" by his former school as grounds for granting a waiver.

Oops.

But it doesn't seem to apply in Norris' case with him being a starter and Horizon League all-freshman. And if I recall correctly, Coach Kampe expressed both surprise and disappointment at his transfer.

I dont think the waiver will be approved, I dont think the team should be counting on it being approved or acting in anyway like it will be....but not applying one simply because it likely wont be successful seems stupid. Im happy they at least tried even if it doesnt work out.

He definitely wasn’t run off. Everything I’ve read about this kid I’ve read says that he’s a gym rat that loves playing and takes direction well. He basically saved Oakland’s season by stepping up as a freshmen and playing the point, dishing out 5 assists a game, not turning it over, and shot 48 percent from deep. Oakland didn’t have anyone threatening to take his spot. He had interest from Notre Dame
and it seems pretty obvious he wanted out of the horizon, and wants to compete to go to the NCAA tournament.

As nice as it would be to have a solid point guard like him with experience this year, I’ll be happy with having him next year ready to play in our system. It seems extremely unlikely he gets a waiver.

I agree. If Porter expected him to get a waiver, Norris would've played more in the scrimmage. As things stand today, it doesn't sound like he's getting a lot of time in rotations for this year.
