Quote:
The Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball team has paused all team activities due to positive COVID-19 tests results among the team’s personnel, which consists of student-athletes, coaches, managers and staff.

“Since July, we have been mindful and diligent while testing for the past 16 weeks with no positives until this point,” Loyola head coach Porter Moser said. “But, as we have seen throughout the county, COVID-19 cases are on the rise, spiking everywhere, and unfortunately it has reached our program. From the onset of returning, we have said that the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff comes first. At this time, we will suspend all team activities and will follow all back-to-play guidelines given to us from our team doctors. We will get through this and will return to play when it is safe to be back.”

The health and safety of the Loyola and Chicago community remains paramount and Loyola Athletics has been and continues to follow city, state and University regulations in response to these positive cases.

College basketball’s season is scheduled to begin November 25 and the start to Loyola’s 2020-21 season will be delayed. Information on the Ramblers’ schedule will be released as it becomes available.

Seemed inevitable. Just sucks that it happened so close to what was supposed to be the start of the season.

Very depressing, hopefully this is the only time this happens.

also seems to go out of the way to say it is not necessarily a player

so it would seem the first time the team can get back to practice would be the 30th of November? Bad timing....just an opinion but I think the start of the season is looking bleak....Dont see anyway we play before February with out a bubble concept....really, really, unfortunate.

This sucks. How are we even going to have a nonconference season?

The number of teams pausing activities is growling quickly. Ivy League is done. Vermont said no activities at all until mid-December. I think non-conference play is toast. 100% of the focus should shift to how we can have a safe and complete conference season.

Or the NCAA could step in and implement Rick Pitino’s suggestion: Move the season back a month or two. Instead of a March tournament, have it in April or May. They just announced today that all NCAA Tournament games will happen in the same place (Indianapolis area), which could make moving things back easier than trying to coordinate shifting multiple locations around.

Iona is on a pause right now - they canceled the November 25 game against Fordham and the next week's games as well. Fordham shut down for two weeks - and is only getting back to practicing this week. I think Pitino's suggestion of delaying a month may be the right way to go.
