Brot....I hope you are correct....I think he is a great coach, a great person and a great asset to the University....some are concerned that he may go after this year because apparently coaches had to take a covid cut in salary plus tired of being in a one bid league.......

Another big concern being the coaches on the hot seat right now....Marquette, DePaul, maybe even Northwestern. All places that may target Porter.

You don’t think he will be like Ed Cooley and stay? Why leave when what he has is great.

Money, the chance to coach at a "higher level" program, better facilities, more fan/administration support, not having to deal with a one or two bid league.

Downsides--less patient fanbase (which I think Porter needs as he is a culture/program builder--not a quick flip guy), having to 'start over', job security

I would hope Moser would look at the example of Dan Monson ( sp?) - the guy who built up Gonzaga and leaves for greener pastures in Minnesota. Mark Few takes over, and few years later Monson is out in Minnesota. meanwhile, Few has a dynasty at Gonzaga .

It will be interesting to see how the coaching market plays this Spring/Summer. Loyola wasn’t the only school where coaches had to take a cut. Without the tournament last year, and no fans allowed this year, athletic departments have taken a bath. Especially some football schools, with no fans and reduced bowl games. I can’t remember the exact figures, but I saw a breakdown posted of what a school like Ohio State was likely losing by not having fans at football games this year. It was eye popping.

The good news/bad news is that our athletic department budget was not as impacted as others because we don't have the ticket sales that these other programs have.

All the schools were impacted by not having a tournament, but we didn't miss selling 15,000 basketball tickets a home game or 80,000 football tickets.

It’s interesting. Porter was offered the Saint Johns job. They aren’t going to the tournament. There was interest in UNLV. They aren’t going. While Porter took less money to stay at Loyola, he’s in much better position to 1) compete in the NCAA tournament, and 2) get a better job than the ones offered, because he stayed at Loyola and kept winning. I think if you look at both programs situations, almost 2 years removed, he made the right choice not going to New York. He also didn’t yank his son out of Chicago or leave his family in Chicago till kiddo graduated high school, which I’m sure he’s probably happy about, given the past year. I also think that it would have been impossible for him to recruit in a new place with the pandemic, so he probably really got saved with his choice.

I said it 2 years back, and I still think it’s true today - if he was going to leave, the two best fits for him are 1) Michigan State, and 2) Notre Dame. I also thought Michigan, but I don’t think that’s in the cards now.

I hope he stays, but if he goes I want him to get a job that gives him a chance to succeed. Saint Johns, DePaul, Nebraska, etc. wouldn’t give him that right away.

Bottom line is - Porter seems really smart. He’s also been humbled at his previous jobs. If he goes - I think he’s only going for something BIG.

I’m living in the moment with Porter and this team. We have the ability to win tournament games this year. I hope we get the chance, however it plays out.

OK I am old school SEE days of George Ireland LUC and Ray Meyer at DPU---Both schools were NATIONAL Powers--Both were long term both ran HONEST programs--unlike Bradley and Kentucky I rate PORTER with them --Totally honest and LOYAL AND a GREAT Coach as were they
I say he stays at a great school in a GREAT city rather than move to a lesser town such as Milw or East Lansing
