Baylor jumping Paxson, Cooper, and Tate for playing time on Sunday has to be the most interesting developments of the season to me (besides Aher hitting the three at a higher clip and Tate's struggles). I really did not see this coming, especially after he got cooked on D a few times right after the half during the first Northern Iowa game. I was not able to watch the games this weekend closely as I was working. How does he look on D? I was surprised to see him closing out the game at points. 16 minutes feels like a ton for a true freshman on a team this deep in close conference games. |

I think it was less of a “jump” and more of a matchup game. Without marquise we didn’t have someone who could really drive off of ball screens which was what Evansville seemed to be giving us (Braden took it to the hoop more than he ever has), and as a freshman that’s one of Baylor’s strengths. Furthermore Evansville played almost the entire series 5 out with a lot of smaller quick guards like Newton and Givance. This forced Krut to play on the perimeter which and made them super hard to defend when they got the ball moving and started to penetrate. I think Hall is actually a really good defender on bigger wings (he was actually really solid on Mosley when matched up), but the small quick guards were giving him issues so Hebb got the call. I was actually really impressed with his effort on defense, played really hard and smart. Had that great steal on the double team. He’s extremely savvy going to the hoop, he can change speeds with ease and has good footwork, his eurostep was beautiful in game 1. His wired to score and is definitely a bucket getter similar to Kennedy offensively. With him Kennedy and Ty Johnson next season the team will have 3 guards that can be really dangerous in isolation situations. |

I mean no disrespect, but "Baylor Hebb" is just not a good name for a basketball player, so I have nominated myself to come up with a cool nickname for him. I hope it catches on like " King Krut" did. I've spent a good five minutes thinking about it, and so far my best idea is not a nickname but a catchphrase for the announcers to use when he hits a 3 pointer: PAY YOUR TAB, BAYLOR HEBB! For a nickname, how about "Baylor Swift", "Hebbatitis-B", or "My Brother" ("He ain't Hebby, he's my brother") |

Agree with Tate’s trouble on those smaller guards, he picked up a few blocking fouls just being a touch behind the smaller guards first step. Which Evansville likes to expose, as they cause so many switches. It was inevitable Tate would end up on Givance or another quick guard. |

My thoughts while doing the preview was Kennedy was going to get big minutes going against Givance and Newton. That was based on their quickness. You saw that Kennedy was put on Valpo's Daniel Sackey for the same reason. Without having Kennedy available, Hebb was the next best option. Hebb has almost the quickness of Kennedy, with good hands and a little more length. That's something to watch and good for us in the long run. |

Seemed like they were intent on taking it right at Tate off the dribble. |

some good observations....So Tate is a little slow on the first step from the outside...but when Krut is low defensively they can trap on the baseline....but the 5 out (which I think we may use next year if Krut does not come back) really let the two quick Evansville guys get to the hoop...I am wondering if this will turn into something others will use especially against Norris. But gotta like the way Hebb has improved.....but again it just shows how good PM is at knowing and using the talents of his roster... |

I find him to be a pretty good defender. |

I do not think it was that surprising Heeb played more. As we have gotten better and slightly bigger players, we have struggled at times with smaller teams with quick guards who move the ball. You see that at times when there are upsets against P5 teams because they tend not to be built that way. Without Kennedy, Coop and Tate are going to struggle with smaller speed players. I think Porter went with Heeb to try to equalize that. Heeb is also a better offensive player than Paxson, although Paxson is solid on defense. My concern is that we did not shoot the three enough against Evansville. We iced that game Sunday because Norris and Clemons hit big threes down the stretch. We will need to make some threes against Drake. Threes are why we have scored over 70 so many times this year. We can not abandon that mindset we had while blowing teams outs during this winning streak. This weekend will be interesting as Drake has been getting off to slow starts and they been coming back against weaker teams. If the school and conference allow Drake to fill the place since restrictions have been lifted, it could be wild. |

Reminds me a buddy of mine named John Anthony who everybody called "Arnold" because his high school football coach misread his name on the back of his jersey during tryouts. |
