We are a relevant program at a University we all agree has provided an education that has given us tools to last a lifetime. He do we keep the people who have achieved this unbelievable accomplishment. The University now has a profile that LU administrators could never achieve on their own.
Has LU offered any of the athletes graduate school? We hang our hat on how well we do in school and we are educating our student-athletes, here is a real chance to show priorities. What has been offered to keep them another year? Extra undergrad classes won't cut it. If I was a senior and LU told me you can stay and take more undergrad classes and I could go get a grad degree at Kellogg for example, what choice is there.
If President Rooney wants to run the University as a business, then she should take my advice and run it as such. No donor has ever given as much money to the university than Porter's program has during his tenor. The amount of publicity from 2018 was astronomical, yet I feel its been discounted in the upper circles of the university. It isn't Porter's fault the university hasn't been able to raise significant funds from his success.
If you can get the seniors to stay an extra year, then you will keep Porter for an extra year. Porter has now shown he can succeed even under a pandemic when many power 5 coaches could not. It is a certainty he will receive offers that will at least triple his current compensation package. I would feel much better about this if Bob was still here with us, but I do not feel there is a voice on the board of trustees who sees any of this. Many of us, who are the old-timers, know LU is very capable of squandering opportunities.

I think Porter will attract more attention after the team's performance this year. If we make it a game or two into the tournament, then the offers will start coming. I wish the school could offer him more money, but I completely understand him going to a P5 for triple the salary.

Regarding the grad school component, that's definitely available. I am 99% sure that Custer and Townes took graduate business classes. I also think Doyle took graduate level classes. Education, maybe? I'm sure there are other recent examples.

I'm not sure how the NCAA is going to handle the additional influx of scholarship players next year, given that each player has an additional year of eligibility. I'm sure most of the seniors will have the ability to get a masters degree and stay another year if they'd like.

I know Tate Hall is an MBA student currently. So I doubt he'll stay another year for another masters degree. As for other players, I don't think many of them have a future as professional players. Krut has the brightest future, but I don't think he is NBA caliber personally. Maybe a D league team. I'm curious how many of them would choose to get a masters degree for free and play another year, and how many will decide to start their career already. For those that decide to pursue a professional career, their is value in staying another year and building up stats.

No one has said anything yet whether they will stay another year or not. I would think each student has given it some thought by now. Only time will tell. I doubt we will know anything about this until after the season.
