It's funny because Lansing is a solid coach doing some nice things with a program that is hardly a destination for coaches. Sometimes these colleges get big stars in their eyes when look at a team like Loyola and think, "Hey we can do that." The problem is 1) it doesn't happen overnight; 2) you need a coach willing to take on the situation; 3) you need commitment from the school to a coach to let him build and other things i.e. $s for facilities, travel, coach's salary; 4) you need some luck in finding some kids that stick around and blossom. In our case we got all of those things and we had the City of Chicago and a great academic reputation to sell on top of the rest. I am not sure if Indiana State can become a great program through a coaching change based on the facilities, budget, location of the school. Lansing is a few wins from actually becoming the all-time winningest coach down there with the handicaps he works under. |
