So the Supreme Court started to hear arguments on the status of how to reward student athletes. At one end everything stays the same, at the other it allows individuals to negotiate their own salaries and let the free market do what the free market does. It seems that through their questioning they have hit the salient points. 1. Athletes are not getting a fair share of the pie and are not free to negotiate compensation for their services. 2. Any change could destroy the concept of equal competition and amateur athletics as we (now) know it. My gut tells me that we are done with athletics as we know it. They will decide on the side of opening up this closed system . They will do it in a way that creates the illusion of helping athletes but will really be to open it up for businesses to get bigger pieces of the pie....think NIKE Krutwig jerseys....mustaches, harmonicas ......Krutwig beer at Brunos.......STAY TUNED and FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELT |

forgot something....So the wealthy schools who have alumni with rich pockets can lure high school kids to their school with promises of endorsement deals....and then as money is more related to your skills....you forget high school basketball...and spend your time getting the best competition, training etc........you know longer play for your community, town, school...but for yourself ...... and it all comes back to math and tv...with the ability to collect a few bucks from millions of people...you have so much money involved how can you not wonder what is fair and what is not......thats it for me...I am going to buy the unibombers old cabin in Montana,,,and play checkers with the raccoons. I will miss Brunos |

Salaries are a different beast, but I honestly don't see how anyone can defend the restrictions on the abilities of these kids to make money from sponsorship deals. If Mariano's wants to pay Krutwig and put his face on a bag of peanuts, what right does anyone have to stop that? |

I am curious to know how scholarships are handled for tax reporting purposes. After all, tuition, room and board, tutoring, books, trips to special tournaments and events such as the NCAA with rooms, meals, travel are compensation or perks if you prefer. Seems to me a 1099 at least would be warranted. So this argument of no compensation is bogus and they are not appointed to schools via a draft, They "choose' which offers to accept. |

The overwhelming majority of players are getting the better end of the deal in a scholarship in exchange for play deal. Not all, but most. |

The bottom line is that when the federal government gets involved in anything, they fuck it up. |

like thei f upped job they did in WWII..and of course I refuse to drive on the interstate highway system,,,,,I even tested my cereal this AM myself cuz the FDA is just a bunch of hacks.....keep your political opinions to the rant page..... So her is my vision.....I do not know if there is a right or wrong stories but do see this as a case where the just solution could kill the golden goose and will change things as we know them.Since we already have Krut on a bag of peanuts lets use him.....He is a senior at Jacobs getting ready to commit to college....and he can be compensated in some form....would he not want to go the place who can offer him the best compensation? so now the compensation is tv exposure, coaching, chance to play and win , get to the Dance, and the education provided, chance to get to the pros...IF things change what will the best compensation be? will it be cash, getting endorsements etc...and now you have the schools with big pockets offering the endorsements and Bill Gates even though he only had two years at Harvard decides the IVy League has had enough and tells Krut if he goes to Harvard he will give him two million bucs a year to be the face of the Bill Gates Foundation.. and LU counters with Bob Newhart telling Krut he will get him a cameo on his next movie.....I mean how do you see this playing out and how do you see what college sports will look like at the end......????? I do not deny that some college athletes may be like movie stars who produce income...but in reality , even with the system we have , very few athletic departments make money......I would really like to hear how people see this....here is an interesting article https://www.bestcolleges.com/blog/do-co ... ake-money/ |
