So this bothers me....CHICAGOS TEAM......I remember when all the teams were Chicagos teams......Always articles on all the college teams.... But the old double headers where there would usually be two Chicago teams or at least two Illinois teams playing other national schools....I was thinking about City vs City series. Played in one day.
you could switch cities every year and switch who plays who every year.
lets say Chicago vs New York
LU vs Fordam
UIC vs Manhattan
NU vs St, Johns
Depaul vs Iona

or Chicago vs Philadelphia
LU vs St. Joes
NU vs Villanova
UIC vs Penn
Depaul vs Temple

Chicago vs LA
LU vs. Loyola Maramount
NU vs USC
Depaul vs UCLA
UIC vs University of Cal at Northridge

I love Nate's idea. And you got the pairings exactly right. Instead of Manhattan, Hofstra, St. Francis or LIU can be substituted in, as necessary. And maybe LaSalle or Drexel gets in, as necessary, in Philly.

I think a City Vs City series would be great. Or even a Jesuit Vs Jesuit series. In a perfect world, every city would have a Big 5 tournament like Philadelphia.

Great post and great idea.
As always you have interesting insights and ideas.
Looking forward to the day when we can have the watch parties again in Barrington.

A tournament held in a different city each year with any number of teams to be drawn from amongst: Loyola, Gonzaga, St. Louis, Fordham, Boston College, Saint Joseph's, Marquette, Creighton, Xavier.

M52 -

I would book my tickets today for a national type of "Jesuit Jam" tourney in an American City. The local team could be the host and use the air time to promote the heck out their school. The cities could use it as a modest but meaningful tourist boon and the the Jesuits could use it to promote their schools, the order and the "Jesuit Way". More than that, it could also be a way for these programs and communities to come together to make connections, strategize about the future and have fun. And one final thought, in addition to basketball, how great would it be to have a collective mass and breakfast event featuring a well known speaker that comes from or has a ties to one of these schools or the Jesuit order?

AND... Any half time entertainment that features SJ Brothers shooting free throws is just frosting on the cake.
