Hosting Bradley or Illinois State or Drake or UNI would attract a lot more fans than hosting Albany or Central Arkansas. Although of that group, Drake is probably the only potential Q2 type game at home. And as others have pointed out, MVC teams would require a H&H contract (not buy games) and might not be too keen on coming to Gentile the year after we left the conference. Especially with UIC giving their Chicago area alums a 'home' game.

I think we'll take this year and next year off from playing any MVC teams. Let the separation 'sink in'. Then starting in 24-25 or so, I'd expect to see at least one on the non-conf schedule every year.

Wed. Mar. 8, - Sun. Mar. 12, 2023 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship Brooklyn, New York

By my count, this completes the schedule... 8 non-con + 3 games in an MTE + 18-game conference season = 29 games before conference tournament

Wondering what the loose ends are holding up an announcement..... specific dates? TV? double-header partners for the neutral site games?

I think it's close to the best non-con slate we've had since the early 90s... Some might disagree about the good schedule because of lack of a P5 game on the road-- I say that's a definite sign of progress! This situation is closer to the P5 scheduling process. We've got some very good (probable Q1) neutral games, a top 100 from a big conference at home (DePaul), and some games to pad the W column against other conferences....

Once you add in two games against an almost-lock Top 25 team (Dayton), two games against a lock Top 50 team (St. Louis), a home game against a probable top 75 team (VCU), and several other potential Top 100 games, it might be the best schedule Loyola has ever had.... and I say that as a longtime researcher of Loyola basketball history. No non-D1 games, no suicide missions for a paycheck (paid road game against really good P5s), and we play our two biggest local rivals.

Once you had the high level of our conference schedule-- arguably the most challenging conference schedule since Loyola joined a conference-- it's maybe the best ever. Or at least since the late 70s....

JCT, see Rule 17.4.5.1

28 games plus a 3 game MTE (31 total)
OR
29 games plus a 2 game MTE (31 total)
OR
29 games plus NO MTE (29 total)

We fall under the first one: 28 games plus a three team MTE
So there are still 2 openings.

Looking like the potential to have at least 4 ranked games in conference this year (SLU and Dayton)

Myrtle Beach Invitational bracket out: https://espnevents.com/myrtle-beach-inv ... l/bracket/

We play the last game of the day on Thursday, November 17 (week before Thanksgiving) against Tulsa. A bit 'meh' of an opening opponent. Hope would be to get Boise State in the second round, who went 27-8 last year and lost in the first round of the tourney. And then Texas A&M in the championship, who made a run to the NIT final last year and returns a lot of talent.

Good bracket for us with Texas A&M and Colorado on the other side. Tulsa is a very winnable game-- Bart Torvic's early season ratings has Tulsa ranked 145 and Boise State at 98. He has us at 51, Colorado at 77 and Texas A&M at 19.

When they match you up against lower ranked teams in the first two rounds, it means they think you're a top team in the tournament :) We've come a long way.

I'd rather have a guaranteed game against one of the top teams. If we slip up vs Tulsa, then we could find ourselves not getting a game vs Texas A&M, Colorado or Boise.

JCT, I hope you didn’t take me citing the NCAA rule the wrong way. It is confusing. I have to imagine a home non d1 and would like to see the start of a home and home vs a WCC or MAC school on the road.
