While watching several games, thoughts come around that might apply to the Ramblers recruiting, style of play, scheduling to get to the tourney, etc.
Defense rules… You know it when you see it. Teams get farther that play solid defense. LUC needs players to commit to that. Hate to say but Nwestern defense was solid. They got far with solid team D and two talented guards. Hint hint. Needs to be emphasized. Plus solid defense leads to quick run outs that get points without getting stuck in half court offense, aka UCLA
Three point shooting and free throw shooting.. Good teams knock these down. Tyler Campbell goes 10 for 10 from the line…..Princeton three point shots coming off of team play and excellent passing. Confident shooters, AKA Sheldon….They are out there, the three is becoming more routine and higher percentage of makes is to be expected.
Offensive rebounding. Esp missed threes seem to be ripe for offensive rebounds.Need to look for them, not just run the other way after a shot goes up.
There is a lot of talent out there, not just on P5 teams. Hope we find it.
Coaching: Nwestern crushes Boise as Boise made zero adjustments to a guard driving the lane repeatedly. I saw LUC tolerate such play repeatedly in A10, where one guy kills us the whole game. Need to set a defense to redirect or nullify guards driving the lane. Mick Cronin sets up and virtually stops Boo Buie cold. Then Collins adjusts for this and Audige becomes the guy, almost pulls it out.. Adjustments midgame.
I know this is a hodgepodge. So many needs for Ramblers, and hoping the staff finds a way to meld a team concept with the portal guy s and the existing scholarship kids. It just sucks being out of the conversation at the seasons end. Watching these games shows how good basketball looks.
BTW isn’t it fun seeing Illinois get bumped. Oh, and Purdue/ FDU! Go figure. Let’s be ready to play hard from Day 1 next season. What are you folks seeing in the tourney..? Go Ramblers…

You don't see a lot of teams turning it over 20 times either...

Of the 16 remaining teams, 10 of them are in the top 20 of adjusted defensive efficiency on KenPom.

Defense and guard play. That's the usual recipe for March success. So many of the best big men in the country are sitting at home already (Edey (NPOY), Dickinson, Bacot, Tshibwe, Jackson-Davis).

And the Big10 showing again why it is unnecessarily overrated, sending only 1 of 8 teams to the second weekend, a surprising Michigan State.
