Loyola Ramblers Game Preview - https://loyolaramblers.com/news/2024/12 ... isius.aspx

Canisius Intel and Stats - https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/sc ... /2025.html

Record: 0-11 (0-2, 11th in MAAC MBB)
Coach: Jim Christian
PS/G: 62.0 (352nd of 364)
PA/G: 80.3 (346th of 364)
SRS: -18.45 (354th of 364)
SOS: -0.18 (167th of 364)
ORtg: 93.7 (349th of 364)
DRtg: 121.3 (361st of 364)

Loyola Chicago hosts Canisius for its final home non-conference game of the season, tipping off at 7pm.

Canisius, who has yet to win a game this year, is led by Paul McMillan IV, (son of Paul McMillan who played with us 2002-2004) whom we saw last year on Central Michigan. McMillan leads Canisius in scoring at 19.5ppg. Interesting, how'd he end up there?

Looking at above team stats, not a whole lot to discuss.

Loyola looks to rebound from its loss to San Francisco, while also mitigating the injury bug and learning to play with some strategic adjustments and a thinner bench. This final non-conf tuneup will feature a new starting lineup of: Quinn, Watson, Edwards Jr, Nwaokorie, Rubin. In relief will be DeLoach, Glazkov, and Hendawy. I'd expect a good distribution of minutes among the 8, each guy getting 20'ish.

Tonight will be a valuable opportunity to ride the 2 freshmen and see what they do.

Can't make it to the Joe? - Wednesday's game can be watched on Marquee Sports Network and ESPN+ with Jordan Bernfield and Nick DiNardi, and can be listened to Rambler Sports Network with our friends Sudikoff and CT.

Odds: Loyola -25

Everybody hates when we schedule these cupcakes, me included. Little did we know 3/5 of our starting lineup would go down. So it's kind of nice to have basically another exhibition game for our mash unit.

If we win by 25+ I'll feel pretty good about Hawaii. Offensively the new starting lineup figures to give us decent spacing at least.

RR...thanks for taking up the mantel of pre game previews....Hope all is ok with JCT..he put a lot of work into Ramblermania. I still think we should put out business cards at the game on those tables where they put the lineup....to boost our profile and membership?????

I hope one of our X/O experts can help define why our offense is so mediocre. I'm seeing the problems... over-reliance on threes by average shooters at best, lack of continuity, extremely poor free throw shooting, bigs that struggle to score 1v1... but we have good quickness, passing, and athleticism, so why can't get get better shots consistently?

That game did not inspire a ton of confidence going into the Diamond Head. I think we need to go 2-1 to 'tread water'--ideally with a close loss to Nebraska in the championship. 3-0 with wins over Oregon State and Nebraska would be the absolute ideal. Anything worse than 2-1 should be considered an unsuccessful trip.

Agreed our offense just doesn't look right. There isn't enough effort to attack the hoop and feed the big men. There's a reason opponents are leaving Watson, JQ, etc. open for 3's. Sheldon is the only one who I am confident in shooting 3's. He was a very nice 6-13 last night from deep and 38.6% on the season. Watson is best going to the hoop and only shooting 3 or 4 from deep per game (not 9 like last night). Deloach and Rubin need to contribute more on offense. Feel like they aren't even given the opportunity to do so.

Right, it's like we're struggling to feed them in the post. DeLoach is getting fouled a lot and he's shooting 43%.

And I tend to agree with you about Des, but at the same time, he's only shooting 38% on twos. Terrible.

Is there any explanation for our Free Throw shooting?? Des was a 75% FT shooter at Davidson on almost 100 attempts, and he's 10 points worse here on 150 attempts.

The Ramblers have 3 starters out with recent injuries (Watson, Moore, & Houinsou) plus 2 red shirts. That means the roster has 8 scholarship players with three new starters who have not been in the regular rotation. Plus our lack of big bodied players on the team this year.

Look for LU to have their hope in the A10(15) tournament after thy play together & hope we have no more injuries or sickness.

Canisius was very well coached. I thank them for making it a competitive game. They were fun to watch.

JQ's ability to finish right now is huge. He's got the ability to average 10+ppg a game if he keeps driving for layups on his strong side being lefty. Majority of them are with the left hand, and it looks like defenses aren't able to get to left side. 4 fouls and some over-aggressiveness, so that needs to ease up a bit. But what was best - ZERO turnovers.

I think Glazkov gets better each game. Seifeldin as a 6-8 backup point guard..... I want more.

Rubin and DeLoach must absolutely be beasts next week for us to have any shot. Their lack of offensive production this year is my only concern with this team. DeLoach from VCU, where are you?

Nwaokorie is very steady. Reminds me of Aundre Jackson some, but less beef down low.

Sheldon is the LUC Culture. This guy is so important right now. He and Des are the captains and leaders.

Nate - Glad to continue these threads, though nowhere close to the JCT quality of journalism. Looked as if nobody else was going to do it. I sit on my computer all day for work anyways, so it works out for now. Thank goodness for College-Reference.com

My hope is that Quinn follows a similar trajectory to Sheldon last year, where a breakout game unlocks his confidence and he can reach his potential. Hard to remember since Sheldon now plays like such a short-memory shot-maker, but before that George Mason game he was looking pretty timid and it wasn't clear he was going to work out. Seems like in that game he proved something to himself and he's been fearless ever since.

I do think Quinn has another level he can reach, just has to see himself do it once. He's already done a great job of cleaning up the turnovers we saw last year, but is still a little timid and that's what's getting him into trouble. He beat his guy off the dribble a lot last night but didn't always attack with authority. He's got a good floater that I don't think he utilizes enough. Even his 3-point shot, if you see him in shootarounds, it goes in a lot, but I think he's hesitant in actual gameplay since he hasn't had a good % so far in his career.

We'll need him to step up to have a shot in Hawaii. We will also need to get some decent minutes from the freshman, we gave up a lot of points when they were on the floor last night. Also, I heard Jack Turner will indeed likely be activated.
