Loyola Chicago Ramblers (14-9, 5-5) at Richmond Spiders (8-16, 3-8) – 6:00pm CST Robins Center, Richmond, VA

The two game road trip wraps tonight in Richmond, where the Ramblers look to recover from a very poor loss at Duquesne.

Loyola Chicago suffered a 69-56 loss on Saturday evening at Duquesne, falling to 14-9 overall and 5-5 in Atlantic 10 play. Away from Gentile Arena this season, they are a very poor 1-8. Head coach Drew Valentine expressed disappointment in the Duquesne postgame interview, noting that the team had two poor days of practice and lacked the necessary juice and pop compared to the Dukes. Despite an early lead, Loyola struggled with turnovers in the first half, which led to 16 points for Duquesne. The Ramblers were led by Des Watson's 14 points on 6 for 19 shooting, while Sheldon Edwards Jr. added 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Loyola was able to erase Duquesne's halftime lead with a 9-0 run to start the second half, holding the Dukes to an 0-12 start, but it was far from enough needed as the Dukes responded with an 8-0 run late in the game to secure the win. Coach Valentine emphasized the need for the team to "Work for and earn everything they want" as they look to salvage the road trip.

Richmond has lost 8 of their last 9, and their struggles continued Saturday in a tough 71-60 loss to Davidson, as the Spiders’ shooting went ice-cold in the second half. After an impressive 7-12 performance from beyond the arc in the first half, Richmond managed just 1-11 from three-point range after halftime. Despite leading for most of the game, the Spiders’ offense stalled in the final 10 minutes, allowing Davidson to close with a 21-9 run. Richmond fell to 8-16 overall and 3-8 in A-10 play.

Richmond is awful this year, especially in conference play, losing 8 of their 11 A-10 games, and this is very shocking considering they won a share of the A10 regular season title with us last year.

Delonnie Hunt averages 16.8 points per game with a 42.9 field goal percentage, Dusan Neskovic contributes 13.7 points per game while shooting 42.1 percent, and Mikkel Tyne adds 8 points per game with his speed and agility. However, injuries have hampered the Spiders, with G. Washington questionable due to a shin injury and Delonnie Hunt out with a foot injury. Richmond won their last matchup with Loyola-Chicago but has lost three of their last four meetings with the Ramblers. Scoring has been a significant issue for the Spiders this season, managing just 65.7 points per game and shooting 48 percent from the field.

Loyola is 1-8 away from Gentile Arena and has lost 4 in a row on the road. This futility could prevent us from also winning tonight against another A10 basement dweller.

Ramblers - 5-5, averaging 67.7 points, 30.0 rebounds, 14.8 assists, 5.9 steals and 4.3 blocks per game while shooting 44.5% from the field. Their opponents averaged 70.6 points.

I am guessing that we stayed out east rather than fly home late Saturday and back out on Monday???? These conference mid-season back to back road games have to be tough on the players...Also notice that we only had 2 Saturday/Sunday conference home games but 5 away Conference weekend games....and 3 of our weeknight games were 8pmers....Dayton on the other hand had 3 Saturday Home Conference games and only 1 8pm games. When little things matter you would hope that scheduling does not favor one team over another. Dont know if the discrepancies I have brought up matter but????
The Big10 which plays 2 more games than the A10 plays two in early December. Wonder if the A10 did the same if it would not keep our teams fresher during Conference...?

I am optimistic. I would like to think the team turned the corner after the beating we took in the first St. Joe's game. Since January 11, going into Saturday nights game we were 4-2 and our two loses were on the road in overtime. Saturday's game was not great, but we were in it until the last 5 minutes. We were down 2 with 5:20 left before we collapsed. Hopefully, we can hit some shots early and limit the bad turnovers. Richmond is not good and we should be motivated to win.

9 TOs, but Spiders only 8 pts off our TOs
73% FT shooting is better. 11 of 15.
Better ball control, and 16 Assts for Ramblers.
If Des had another point, 3 Ramblers, Des, Sheldon, JD, would be 20+ points.
With JQ's 10 pts., 4 Ramblers double digit points, a nice distribution.
Even with we had 16 pts in paint and Spiders had 38, we won!
Enjoy the trip home boys.

Offense pretty frustrating. Just chuck up 3's and hope someone is hot. Thankfully, today, JD, Des & Shel all were hot for moments. We need to diversify things and attack the paint.

Take the road win. Tied with UMass & Dayton for 4th at 6-5. SLU right above us 7-5. Big game Friday hosting the Bilikens. And then again next Friday hosting the Flyers. With a road trip to Davidson mashed in the middle.

still fighting.....Richmond may be not so hot.but a win on the road of back to backs shows something. Hope we give them a nice home court lift Friday.

This offense is the worst.

If we play anything like this again on Friday we are not beating SLU.

With that being said, we are now just a half game out of third place.

God Bless Sheldon for bailing them out in overtime.

Offensively, this team is close. We see a good number of open threes and we need to make them. If Jaden, Des and Sheldon can return to last year's shooting percentages, we will finish in the top 4.
