Loyola Chicago Ramblers 5-14 (1-5) at St. Bonaventure Bonnies 11-7 (0-5) – 6:00pm CST, Reilly Center, Olean, NY

Tonight, the Ramblers travel to the middle of nowhere, Olean, New York, where they will take on the St. Bonaventure Bonnies. Since joining the A10 in 2022-23, the Ramblers are winless at St. Bonaventure in 2 previous tries.

On Friday night, the short-handed Ramblers lost at Dayton 78-51. The Ramblers made the first half competitive, winning for most of it, and were within one point at the break. Loyola didn’t get any closer than that, getting blasted 47-21 in the second half. Miles Rubin was the leading team scorer with 14 points and eight rebounds while Kymany Houinsou put up 10 points with six rebounds and three assists for the Ramblers.

Over on the Bonnies’ side, they got off to a great start this year at 10-1 over their first 11 games. The lone loss in that time was to North Carolina. It’s been a rough 1-6 stretch since then however, featuring losses to Ohio, VCU, Richmond, Fordham, Saint Joseph’s and La Salle. Over the first 18 outings of the year, St. Bonaventure has managed to post an 11-7 overall run.
At 0-5 in A-10 play heading into Tuesday's game, they're the lone squad without a win in conference play. Despite dropping its last five games, St. Bonaventure is 7-2 on its home court.

In their last game on Saturday at La Salle, the Bonnies lost a close one to the Explorers, 78-74. The Bonnies couldn’t defeat a struggling La Salle team over the weekend, giving up 58.1 percent shooting from the field and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from outside. The Explorers’ 20-of-20 from the free throw line stood in stark contrast to St. Bonaventure’s 5-of-9 (55.6 percent) effort on foul shots. Frank Mitchell put up 26 points with seven rebounds and four assists to lead the way, while Daniel Egbuniwe added 19 points with four boards. Dasonte Bowen doubled up on 12 points and 10 assists as well.

7.2% of minutes played and 7.0% of scoring return from the Bonnies 2024-25 roster. Frank Mitchell is averaging a double-double for the Bonnies with 17.2 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. He also added 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game. Mitchell has scored at least 10 points in all but one game this season and has six 20-point performances. He has 10 double-doubles and posted a stretch with five straight earlier this season.

Tonight’s game is a marquee matchup between two teams who are trending downward and on losing streaks. Loyola’s losses are simply attributed to injury and lack of bodies to play while the Bonnies losses are just bad A10 luck and their roster’s league inexperience – however, they have been able to keep each game and loss close. The Bonnies have lost five straight games now, giving up 78 or more points in four of them. Loyola does not play well at the Reilly Center.

St. Bonaventure Probable Starters – 6-2 G Dasonte Bowen, 6-3 G Cayden Charles, 6-7 F Daniel Egbuniwe, 6-8 F Frank Mitchell, 5-10 G Daryl Simmons II

Loyola Probable Starters - Rubin, Houinsou, JOJ, Anderson, Tavarez

LAST 10 GAMES FOR BOTH SQUADS

Bonnies: 4-6, averaging 79.7 points, 31.5 rebounds, 16.9 assists, 7.3 steals and 3.7 blocks per game while shooting 46.8% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 76.3 points per game.

Ramblers: 3-7, averaging 68.3 points, 32.6 rebounds, 13.5 assists, 3.9 steals and 3.6 blocks per game while shooting 42.8% from the field. Their opponents average 78.2 points.

Second game with a humiliating 2nd half. This one was way worse than the UD collapse as we had a 12 point lead, Bonnies are awful this year AND we had some key pieces back tonight. Team looked absolutely pathetic in the 2nd half.

Thought Rubin was pretty good overall. Although only 8 pts, he had 4 blocks, 2 steals and 12 Rebs. But our team did stink up the court in the 2nd half, no doubt. Bonnies with 21 pts off of our TO's, of which we had 16. OK tonight on FT's at @73% but Bonnies @95% popped in 19 of 20! I didn't expect a lot out of returning players but good to see Amos and Richardson tonight, even though Richardson didn't really cut the mustard. Out of gas and some sloppy play in late 2nd, again. My eyes are on mid February. We need to become a basketball team again.

I think it's worth noting that Kymany reinjured himself early in the 2nd half. We were up 46-33 and only had 4 turnovers when he left the game. Drew thought he was really running the game up until that point. Once the injury flared up, he couldn't play the rest of the game. After that, 12 turnovers leading to 15 points, gave up 6 offensive rebounds leading to 8 of their 10 second chance points (2 OR in the first half), and obviously didn't defend as well with them shooting 60% from 3 and 48.4% overall.

On top of that, Richardson was rusty, and Amos was a little off as well. Really need the team to find a way to get healthy and stay healthy.

That was a collapse and was dissapointing....but certainly not surprising. It was great to see some key players back and they played like they missed a month - something that shouldn't surprise anyone. The turnovers in the 2nd half were brutal, but when/if Moore comes back those should be remedied.

Get Moore and Chuck Love back out there and give them a game or two and then let's ruin some dreams. There's no point in being pissed off at losing these games right now...just get healthy and see what we can do.

I also can't wait to see Love and Anderson on the court at the same time.

Despite the shit start, I'm still looking forward to seeing what these guys can pull off.

I guess immediate goal if we want to make any kind of noise is to finish in the top 10 and avoid the Wednesday games in the A10 Tournament.Schedule not that tough from here on out.
So is that 3 games in a row where we have not competed in the 2nd half? I get it, lots of guys out. I guess my question is why we dont slow it down a little. We are still going full neck speed and with a short bench, fewer ball handlers we just seem to wear out .
If anything positive out of this is that Ola-Joeseph seems to be finding his footing and Nick Anderson is getting some experience and Taverez is maybe finding his shooting touch.
