Is he a guy we want to look at? He was a redshirt freshmen last year. He's got the height (6'8") and put on about 30 pounds between HS and NU but his stats in limited minutes last year don't look so hot (1.9 points, 2 rebounds, 1.8 assists in almost 16 min/game) He hasn't played a minute this year (left the team in September). Depending on rules and regulations, he could be eligible at the beginning of next year. He's from Chicago and was a Carmody guy. Averaged 18.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots per game while shooting 49.4 percent in his Junior year. Not saying he's an answer, but is he worth a look? |

I have no opinion. Let's wait for Rambler63 and SubGod to submit their respective dissertations on the subject. Then I'll chime in with some lame-ass, smart alecky remark, and this thread will be ready for the archives like all the rest. What's the point, anyway? |

We technically have no scholarships available. We can "accept" a mid season transfer now because we do have one currently available with only 12 scholarship players on the roster. BUT we have already signed 2 HS players (Richardson and Ingram- one of whom will take the scholarship of Tony Nixon when he leaves at the end of the year) to LOIs. To accommodate a transfer, you have to assume somebody on the current roster is leaving. Which brings me to a few points: Did we give the 13th scholarship to either of the senior walk-ons Boone or Clark as a "thanks for the effort gesture?" Usually programs would publicize that for some goodwill. YouTube as plenty of videos of coaches announcing a scholarship for a walk-on in front of the team. You would think we would do the same thing considering LU basketball and PM could use all the goodwill they could muster up. Does anybody know the status of Tanner Williams? He hasn't played this year, is he still hurt? Is he still in the program? If they're planning to give him a medical hardship, then I guess that opens up a spot down the road for a transfer. Finally, if we do have a scholarship for a transfer (this year and next), this kid would be another good one to look at: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/colleg ... t=obinsite |

As sad as it is, I don't think Tanner will be back (either by choice or forced out). That many knee surgeries can't be good. |

He's had knee problems dating back to sophomore or junior year of high school. 5 years later, he has had even more serious knee surgeries. I think it could very well be a legitimate medical hardship. Hopefully if it is a medical hardship, Tanner still stays at Loyola and is involved in some way with the team. |

It'd be a force out if Tanner wants to stay and Porter wants the scholarship... I don't buy that. If he can't play or be in sound-enough physical shape to play, then it's perfectly right for the program to medically hardship him. Tanner would still be allowed to stay on scholarship; he just doesn't count towards the 13 player limit. And if he wants to leave, then basketball was more important to him than the rest of the Loyola experience. This isn't a matter of a new coach telling a player he isn't good enough and I don't want to honor the commitment you and the school made. |

Saw Turner play and my opinion is that he would not help. Osbourne , Oleary and Johnson are more talented. The most important things that can happen for this program are win a few games and pack the gym. GO RAMBLERS |

If they're planning to give him a medical hardship, then I guess that opens up a spot down the road for a transfer. I recently spoke to someone who knows the situation, and they told me Tanner was advised that he'd have to get another surgery (from the same doctor who did Derrick Rose's ACL), and there was only a 60% or so chance it would be successful. The situation is some sort of tendonitis that flares up when exerted or aggrivated, so he's OK for normal knee performance but not for heavy stress over long periods. Reportedly, Tanner and his family decided over the holidays that it would not be worth it or fair to the team to go through the long rehab with the uncertainty surrounding it all. So he will not be back with Loyola as a player, but will still be around and support the team. My source told me he wants very much to graduate from Loyola, and will apply for some sort of medical hardship provision in order to do so. I'm not sure who makes the final decision on it, or what it means for the scholarship situation. I'm sure we all wish Tanner and his family all the best, and hope that he gets to graduate from Loyola. |

That is really too bad for Tanner. I am guessing that the realization that he wont be able to follow his dream and do something he has a passion for is devastating but would be cool if he can hang with the team until he graduates. I was also thinking about Chim Kadima down at St. Leos. I guess he might take a look at the weather on Monday and conclude that things happen for a reason. GO RAMBLERS |
