#3 Wright State upset #2 Cleveland State in the HL tournament tonight. So if Wisconsin-Milwaukee upsets Green Bay for the second time this year at the Resch Center later tonight, the HL Tournament final will be in Fairborn, Ohio on Tuesday. Make your travel plans later! Wheeeeee!!

What's your point, 63?
It seems to me that every conference winner (Horizon, A10, MVC, etc.) ends up in March Madness. And, ultimately, isn't that where we REALLY want to be?

I really cannot speak for 63 Rog BUT I think he is equating what a poor Conf the HL is compared to ours--and how pleased he is to be away from it---I myself feel the same--You might consider that when the League was founded it was only one of convenience for teams to park while looking to move on--Look at the roster which stayed a very few years and left. The HL itself tacitly admitted as much when they instituted the rigged Tourney.

I personally am thrilled to be in the MVC. I am hoping you will come around soon.

I am thinking three schools will move away soon--Cleveland St, Detroit and Valpo---For fun, I got to thinking--Detroit to the Canisius League, Valpo maybe to the same and Cle State to go with Western Ky's bunch--Probably not but..... The HL will then grab up some more Hyphen or disband altogether--
I really think they brought their trouble on themselves by the Butler connection--who conveniently stabbed them.

I amend my thread above--Could be that DETROIT just could go MAAC--Valpo maybe with a new bunch including Belmont anda-10 spin- offs--Cle St may jump to

Western Ky bunch--(Decent schools in that one.)

Bottom line is I do not think HL is goin' to last long--Oh they might grab Indy FW etc.

The Valley is stable--The HL has a lot but stability is not in its portfolio

If Wichita wins today, there's a good chance the Horizon League has more NCAA teams than the Valley. That'd be something.

Who from the Horizon is getting an at-large?

RPI isn't everything but Green Bay leads the way and is currently at 52. I don't see that getting them in, despite a nice record.

GB is a bubble team. The win over #5 Virginia will go a long way, plus they played a #1 or #2 seed close in Wisconsin. Wouldn't be surprised if they're one of the last 4 in or out. Ironically, an indiana st upset of WSU today would help keep them out.

Green Bay WAS a bubble team until they lost last night to Wisconin-Milwaukee, in overtime, on their home floor in the semi-finals of the HL Tournament. Their RPI dropped to 61 as a result of the loss, which pretty much knocks them off the bubble. Now the HL Tournament final moves to Wright State on Tuesday, which will mark the fifth city to host HL Tournament games-- Rochester MI, Valparaiso IN, Milwuakee WI, Green Bay WI, and Fairborn OH-- over the span of a week.

Most of the oldtimers here know what my quarrel is with the HL. Their entire conference tournament format is the result of a temper tantrum the league had when Loyola made the conference final in 2002. Many people will claim the HL made the change to the format because Butler lost in the first round, not because of Loyola making it. But if it had been #6 UIC vs. #4 Wright State instead of #5 Loyola in that tournament final, do you really think they would have immediately taken the radical and unprecedented step of creating the most stratified conference tournament format in the country to prevent it from happening again? I don't.

There were some other issues leading up to that drastic and stupid move-- such as Loyola getting called for 44% of the technical fouls called in the league in 2000-01, the Theo Dixon spitting incident, and an issue that I unwisely agreed not to mention again (some people know the story, which resulted in their Asst. Commish leaving the conference for another job).

Nevertheless, if it hadn't been for the creation of that tournament format just weeks after Loyola made the final, I would probably have a much less hostile view of that league.

Our old friends from Milwaukee are currently up on the favored (and home team) WSU.

LeCrone must be having a shit fit considering his "protect the top team" tournament isn't going as planned.
