Just as 08Rambler predicted yesterday, and as 01Grad first confirmed on Ramblermania, today is proving to be an interesting one for the Ramblers, as it is being reported on Twitter that Grace Calhoun is leaving Loyola to become the new Athletic Director at the University of Pennsylvania.

My initial reaction is not what I expected...I don't feel elation or vindication. Just a sort of blankness, a realization of just how insignificant she really is, and how I wasted so much time stewing about her antics.

Just moved this over from the other thread but in the meantime Brot raised an interesting point. Is this just the start of something??? There are a lot of people that have been on the administrative side of things for a long time.
As much as I thought Grace was a nice person and competent I never thought she was the one for the job if we define that as resurrecting the basketball program. I think there are three outstanding tasks left for a new AD.
1. The completion of getting the basketball program back to prominence. THis includes all the peripherals like marketing, and sports information etc.
2. practice facility for a track and field program that is moving back into national prominence
3. Student buy in.
certainly wish Grace good luck...

I am going to take off my Hawaii 5-0 hat and mull this all over........I am assuming Father G has known of this for a while and always has had someone on the back burnerr. I think we need a Chicago guy with basketball roots.

WELL A Chgo guy would be nice--Bruno??--BUT how about one of NATIONAL renown ?? FR G is saying he wants us back on top--Pay some big bucks--Get us back up--Chgo is nice but why shut out the rest ?? WE have a campus--Campi ? which is/are Big time---Big City--One that can use a GREAT and successful Hoops team-- A real chance here !!
PLUS, this would put all of our Coaches on notice--We are slowly coming up-in most all Sports--Let's really roll !!

LOYOLA CHICAGO is in a golden spot now--Do NOT blow it--Thogh Bruno would be nice.

My only negative on all this is that I would hate to see Hitch go on any terms but his own. I think it hurt him considerably to not be on the bench this year......and I missed seeing him there.

As an Ivy League Grad I think Penn is a great fit for Dr. Calhoun. I believe there is less pressue at Penn then Loyola where it is a struggle to get student and fan attendence up after Athletics been too ignored for far too many years. Best wishes to Grace and her family.

I think I've recovered from my momentary malaise and will begin expressing myself in plain English.

One lesson in all this is that carpetbagging is a good career move, as evidenced by Calhoun's career arc. She keeps moving out and up, from school to school, and never stays in one place long enough for her stench to permeate the place.

Another lesson is that college administrators charged with making hiring decisions are dumber than rocks.

Our good friend Senex, I recall, predicted that Calhoun might use the Loyola job as a stepping stone in her career climb.

I miss Senex.

#1 priority and should be stated upfront and accepted to even interview for the job? Fill the gym.....85,000 alums in Chicago. You have to get 3000 for the home games and we will allow 1/4 for the opponents as getting their alum bases here is free $. Tough job yes but none the less priority
