I'm reading "Pistol, The Life Of Pete Maravich" by Mark Kriegal.

He talks about some of the best ballplayers to come out of Louisiana, and mentions Leslie Scott as first among them; a playground legend. Scott was a 6'3" guard who averaged 40 ppg while playing for the 1962 champion of the Negro high school league. He is described as being able to shoot like Jerry West and handle the ball like Earl Monroe.

According to the book, Scott next played for Loyola Chicago, where he averaged 27ppg as a freshman, and later was among the final cuts from the Los Angeles Lakers roster.

Apparently he suffered a knee injury at some point in his career, and lapsed into obscurity.

I had never heard of Leslie Scott. Can anybody give me "the rest of the story" about this guy? There's very little on the internet about him.

He's listed in the media guide as wearing #35 for Loyola in 1964-65, and in the all-time roster he's listed as playing in 63-64. According to College Hoopapedia, he transferred to Louisiana-Lafayette (then known as Southwestern Louisiana) for the 1966-67 season.

I remember listening to games on the radio where Red Rush would make the call " Another basket from Leslie the
Great Scott." He came to LU very highly touted.
