Loyola has been searching for an Athletic Director since the announcement of Grace Calhoun's hiring at Penn on March 24. Meanwhile, over at Evansville, their Athletic Director announced his retirement on June 6, about 10 1/2 weeks after Calhoun's resignation. Today Evansville announced the hiring of their new AD:

I would really like to see Loyola hire the right person for the AD job. But we're closing in on six months of this search. How is it that a similar sized program in the same conference (and in a much less desirable location, I believe) managed to conduct a full national search and hire a candidate from 2200 miles away in almost half the time it has taken Loyola to fill the spot? Frankly, I expected an announcement on the AD job to be made today-- by Loyola, not by Evansville.

I have no idea how the new Evansville AD will work out, but he seems to have a pretty good pedigree: Oregon State, St. Louis University, East Tennessee State. I can only hope our AD will have similarly impressive credentials, especially given how long it has taken to find that person.

As Grandma Lottie used to say: "Keep your pants on."

I hope Loyola doesn't settle for some non-entity like Spencer.

We need a game-changer, and if it takes longer to find one who's willing to go to work for Loyola, so be it.

EU has been looking for a rainmaker and couldn't find one. They turned to someone to squeeze the sponge of ticket revenue. Once again reinforcing my point about where D1 sports are going. I do think its great they have someone to control the flow of money but I'm sure that doesn't make the Valley very happy. Overall it's a good move by EU in the short term to control finances and then see where this brave new world takes them. I don't think you can dance to it but I'll give the hire a score of 86.
