He seems to be offering to a lot of small guys. You'd think that might change since he can't keep guys over 6'7" on the team...

There are only six players currently signed who will still be here when the 2016 class enrolls (Doyle, Richardson, Ingram, Knuth, Rajala, and Kirby).

We'll have to add seven players by then, so there is room for both guards and forwards.

I get that. Just noting that, to this point, there is a 9 to 4 ratio of players under 6'7" to players over 6'7". Given the fact that big men are tougher to come by, I feel like Porter should be throwing more shit at the wall and hoping that some sticks.

That seems to be the DePaul approach. Their Verbal Commits page seems to always show like 30 open offers.
