What are the best new songs out? Here's my entry. This video is from a Pitchfork afterparty in 2010, but the record wasn't released until early this year.

I used to be very discerning in music, but I can no longer tell what is real and what is parody. I completely didn't get the Miley Cirus shutdown video parody on SNL last week. Nevertheless, let this be an open thread for music that people think is good.

The video I posted was made by the same guy that did "Friday" by Rebecca Black. Basically, rich parents buying an album for their less than talented kids.

Seems like the only "new music" I like any more is new stuff released by bands I've like for 20+ years. Sammy Hagar and Pearl Jam both released pretty good albums the last few months, that's about all I can add.

The SNL musical guest the first episode of the year was Arcade Fire. They're so weird I can't tell if they're often times parodying themselves (They were also on Colbert last night being equally strange). Their new album (due out at the end of the month) is pretty highly anticipated.

I know my 14 year old niece is pretty stoked about seeing the band Panic at the Disco here in Wichita in January. I've also heard her talk a lot about Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons and a couple of others that escape me at the moment. She's not the typical 14 year old girl that likes Bieber or One Direction or those other similar artists. If I get a chance over the next few days I'll see if I can dig up some examples of what she likes and post it. But again, I'm not sure how "typical" she is.
