The team opened the season with a 3-1 victory over BYU at Stanford. The scores were 25-17, 25-21, 22-25, and 25-23.
Freshmen Jake Selsky and Jeff Jendryk played well as replacements for Peter Jasaitis and Joe Smalzer. There will be another good test tomorrow night against Stanford.

In the later match, #9 Lewis swept #10 Stanford on their own court. Lewis also swept #8 UC Irvine in Southern California earlier in the week (and last night UCI beat #3 Penn State on a neutral court in Hawaii).

The MIVA is looking like it will be stronger than the powerhouse MPSF this year. Besides Lewis and Loyola, #15 IPFW knocked off #13 CS Northridge at a neutral site yesterday, #14 Ohio State beat Cal Baptist, and Grand Canyon-- picked to finish sixth in the MIVA-- took #7 USC to five games at home (with one game going to 35-33) before the Trojans finally took care of them.

Tonight's game will be big for the Ramblers, and a good gauge of how they compare to Lewis. The Ramblers only played eight players in the match against BYU, so a little fatigue might be a factor. Loyola has an 11-match road winning streak dating back to 2013 on the line.

Impressive stuff all around. I couldn't believe my eyes as the Twitter updates on the Lewis match were coming in.

Haha. You probably could have said that for about ten weeks last season. But it's always good to say it again!
