I was watching a video of Cameron Krutwig recently when it struck me: Cam has kind of an old school style of play that reminded me of Dave Cowens of the Boston Celtics from the late '60s-70s.

Both are 6'9" solidly built lefties who rebound in bunches, use the glass a lot to bank in shots in close, and throw long outlet passes to start fast breaks.

I'm not saying that Krutwig is as athletic or aggressive as Cowens was, but he definitely fits the same mold.

Just for fun, I got to thinking who other current Ramblers reminded me of from the players I watched in my youth:

Ben Richardson > John Havlicek:
I actually think there's a bit of facial resemblance between the two and similar build, although Havlicek was a couple inches taller. Style of play was comparable- hard-nosed, always hustling, a little stiff as opposed to smooth, but efficient.

Donte Ingram > Billy Cunningham
Lefty small forwards who can sky, play smoothly and under control, and have a soft jumper. I watched a video of Cunningham and his shot looks very similar to Donte's: a push that seems to come off the heel of the hand.

Milton Doyle > Dave Bing
A couple of slender guards who can get to the rim, connect from outside, and complete passes in traffic.
Bing is a former mayor of Detroit.

Aundre Jackson > Adrian Dantley
Two undersized power forwards who have the uncanny ability to get off their shot in traffic. Still haven't figured out how they do it.

You make us sound like the Eastern Conference All-Stars....Im ok with that. Love the comparisons could alsmost see the parquet floor ...My only maybe not would be Milton and Bing....with attention to details I give Milton...he plays like MJ......but there is NO ONE like Nate the Skate , working the baseline like Charlie Mingus .

Bruno Skokna > The Van Arsdale twins, Dick and Tom

Mostly because of the blond hair.

Nate, I love your reference to Charlie Mingus. I was lucky enough to see his team play at Ravinia in the 50's.They took their best shots in the locker room.

I remember Nate. Had a kind of "sling shot" that started behind his head. Shot it real well on the move particularly. What I love about that Trib article is that it takes up about a sixth of the front of the sports section with continuation on page 6. There are about 3 full columns total! Complete with action photo and box score! Yes, Chicago media used to care. When was the last time you saw that?
