There is absolutely zero reason to fire Porter. Not even a discussion. Maybe you agree with that, but I wasn't sure from your post.

The insinuation was we would have to lose the rest of our games by 40, which is virtually impossible but I feel like I have no idea what constitutes impossible anymore

Fair enough.

I will take a back seat to no one in my early on criticism of PORTER !! FTR I was after his scalp. BUT ever since I saw this guy and his team close up ( maybe only but ten feet away--at the KEBT ST game couple of years ago. I saw him, heard him, andwitnessed how his TEAM listened and THEN performed !! We won in a hostile arena !! I have been in his corner ever since-- HE is a winner--Other schools will see this--SO it will soon be up to Watson and the ADMION to prove that they REALLY want us to get back to the top. The AD and Admin must--

--Grant him a raise and EXTENSION
--Keep upgrading Non Con-conference schedule ( This year we did that and must now do even better)
---A hint --Schedule some A-10 schools for example

LUC must not lose this man !!

Porter Moser is the best head coach we have had since Gene Sullivan. After going through four head coaches in ten or twelve years, it is time for some stability and continuity in the program.

It was rough going early on which seems to be a staple of a Moser team. At this point, we see exactly what the other schools saw...good talent coming in. He has had some questionable coaching techniques, but he seems to have come a long way since his ISU days

His tenure with Rick Majerus must have had some influence.

This topic has morphed into a commentary on Porter Moser.

As for an at-large NIT bid, the Drake loss really put that dream on life support, and I think it quietly passed away surrounded by friends and loved ones at the conclusion of OT last night.

It dropped the snowglobe and whispered "Rosebud."

It slumped back on the floor of a Vietnamese cave and whispered "The horror!"

To bring the thread back from solely a keep/fire Porter debate: I would imagine that Porter would hold a lack of postseason tournament and by extension lack of investment in the program against LU in contract negotiations. Realistically, he's going into the last year of a contract with overall success but he's in a business where situations change quickly. Heaven forbid we get an unlucky injury next year. We've had general problems regarding attendance/promotion we have a ...large... void in the upper management powers-that-be that could justify (to themselves at least) not splurging on the program. I think it would take a NCAA Tournament run for a power 5 school like Illinois to come calling, and even that call might be cursory/in desperation. To other mid major schools, hed be a good fit given his recruiting and relatively low price tag compared to other coaches.

Tl;dr: IMHO PM has value on the market and a lack of a postseason might cause him to look at said market.

Sorry to keep it on the off topic train but i think the NIT was a long shot anyway even if we did finish 6-2 down the stretch.

I'm not sure he'd look elsewhere for a lateral move. He's finally at a place where the team is proving it can contend year in year out. He's starting to consistently win, and at least for the moment there's no major pressure/scrutiny from a larger fan base. While at ISUr he recruited some great players but he didn't have time to develop those players and was let go (those players went on to make the NIT the next 3 years). As long as he gets a fair offer I would think he'd take the security here; all while know he could leave big impact on a program.

I'd also note that with the Hall of Fame and moves being made for a practice facility that hopefully the investment in athletics may be growing.

Where would the money come for a practice facility? Rooney cut budgets by 6% university wide. She increased tuition by 2.5% on Monday. Raised room and board by about the same amount. Watson and staff have barely been able to raise money for Lou Wolf. How are they going to raise even a million dollars when they didn't raise 4100 for Lou Wolf and couldn't raise 5k for the Spain trip. The only hope is if Al Norville gives most of the donation or some other alumni does
