Yes, and I think we all admit it.
The knock on Porter wasn't his personality...he's an extremely likable guy. In fact, that had always been his strong suit. But when you look at his records (overall and conference), the scouting report shows that he may do well out of conference but that he ultimately would fade. I think this year was the first year he had a winning record in the Valley.
Again, I admit I was wrong on him. Regardless of his past, I think he is the right coach for Loyola. But what makes him a good coach for Loyola does not make him a good coach for another program. If he repeats the success of this year, we'll see a real push for him. That's why Loyola needs to figure out his contract situation as soon as possible. Don't give him any ammunition to throw back in our face. By that, I mean, if he got an offer next year to coach, say, Boston College. I don't want him to say "well you dragged out my contract process and that shows me that you don't really want me around"
