To 01grad I think that is pretty lame. It is a topic worth arguing because next year the same thing will happen and everyone will complain about how the football schools are crowding out the little schools. The Big East has the highest percentage of teams make the NCAA playoffs. 7 out of 10 teams made it and none of those teams have a football program of significance if at all. The Big East did better than the Power5.

For a team to pick up a Q1 victory they must play a Home game against a 1-30 team at home, 1-50 N, 175 away, and for a Q2 31-75 H, 51-100 N, 76-135 A. There are only 67 teams in the power 5 conferences including the football power that is the Big East. There are plenty of opportunities for a team like Loyola to build up a resume such that even if they were to be upset in their conference tournament they would safely make the NCAA tournament. This is exactly what my case study of Gonzaga showed. If they had lost in the 1st round, they were safely in. Despite being a mid major they had not problem building a quality resume because they scheduled quality victories. So a team like Loyola is a good play for a iffy power 5 school. If they bring them in as a home game Loyola offers a potential Q2 victory. Loyola gets the opportunity for a Q1 victory.

Q3 and Q4 victories are useless. I will make my case that teams like Gonzaga will be coveted on schedules because of the scoring nature. A team like Nebraska that did not play any teams of significance in the non-conference and got 4th place in a P5 conference composed of 14 schools did not make the NCAA tournament. If Nebraska had played Loyola and beaten them, probably would have made the tournament. Loyola does not even have to play P5 schools. Picking good teams in other mid majors and making sure some are away leaves plenty of room. Even if the P5 schools unrealistically held the top 67 positions, there are 68 other teams, that if played as an away game would count as a Q1 opportunity.

Loyola contacted 50 high-major schools, asking for a “buyout” game, the kind that financially favor the home team. Only one said yes: Florida.

Loyola can't even get DePaul or Northwestern to play and we're all in the same city/area. What makes you think all these top 100 schools would want to do it?
