Evening everyone, couldn’t sleep and had some thoughts and wanted to share. Immediate thoughts:

Thanks for the memories coach, last year’s run was magical. Will always be appreciative of him helping put Loyola back on the basketball landscape. He took over a stagnant program and rebuilt it into a likely mid major contender.

That being said, the timing couldn’t be worse and the program is being left somewhat in a lurch. Can’t help but feel a little jaded with him leaving late in the game, while timing is not his fault the coaching carousel is slowing down and will leave the Athletic Department scrambling for a replacement. Can’t blame the man for taking a likely big pay increase and a “promotion” to a bigger conference, spotlight, etc. but it’s times like these that make you realize the Mark Few’s and Gregg Marshal’s of the world are a rare breed. Was hoping he would turn down St. John’s and return back to Loyola, but he has every right to pursue whatever position he chooses, he has earned it and we should wish him Good luck, except when you play the Ramblers, hopefully we win by 30.

On to the future, Losing Mullins is massive as he likely would have been heir apparent, and now additional coaches are heading south to Carbondale. Hopefully Watson can entice Drew or Yaklich to come to Rogers Park, those would be homerun hires. Biggest concern right now is the incoming freshman, hopefully they want to stay at Loyola, and not fulfill Swella’s prediction of asking for releases and becoming salukis. Second biggest concern, transfer portal. Let’s all hope Williamson, Kaifes, Frank, and Krutwig are not hoping to find greener pastures now that the coaching staff has left, and finish out their careers as the most successful Ramblers in program history.

Sorry for the long post and jumping around, disappointing day overall.

NY post morning story confirms Porter was offered St. Johns job. Did not say he had accepted it yet.

This would be an interesting move. It's not the best job in the Big East, but it is a pretty good job with a lot of potential and similarities to Loyola - just on a bigger stage. I don't see him taking it from a recruiting/geography perspective, but I could be wrong. I would hope that Watson has a short list of replacements on his phone.

This will probably be an unpopular opinion but when this happens for me, Porter will be persona non grata. In a vacuum I cant begrudge the man for furthering his career, but its hard to reconcile the way it would leave the program with his comments in the past. The entire thing comes off as very Bruce Pearly- to me & until these last 48 hours I did not think Porter was cut from that cloth. However, it will be hard to refute that he is exactly the same type of self promoter, say whatever needs to be said in order to advance his position type of guy. I'll always be excited to see the guys return to celebrate these last two seasons but Porter would not be welcomed back if I were in charge. All of that "don't run from happiness" talk now seems fabricated image booster that it clearly was the whole time.

I'm sure some will think I am being too harsh but think of how he will leave the program that he supposedly cares so much about...signing day is literally tomorrow and we will lose the entirety of our recruiting class. We have already lost two of our internal coaches who could have helped keep continuity. We will be making a hire well after most of the other musical chairs have already landed, leaving us with a limited candidate pool and limiting the replacements ability to recruit because again SIGNING DAY IS TOMORROW. On top of that given how lenient the NCAA has been with hardship waivers its hard to see how Lucas, Cam, Cooper, Christian and Frank don't all at least see what other options for them are out there. We have been making fun of Valpo in another thread but we are starring down at a similar reality thanks to Porter.

This whole thing will likely take us back to square one. I am hopeful that Watson can get it up and running again, but its very very disappointing that Porter chose the nuclear option as opposed to being valuing what he built here, living his words and executing a transition plan.

Add Pat Baldwin to the list?

I hope Valentine stays, too.

was going to add Pat Baldwin but he had a terrible year at UWM. Just like Steve Hawkins did at WMU (even though I listed him). Baldwin would be a great hire.
