Felt the need to make another post here after I was just alerted to an alarming stat.
We didn’t have a made field goal in the last 7 mins of the game yesterday. Probably got lost in the win but this kind of stretch literally happens in 3 of every 5 games we play. How can you not chalk that up to coaching?
In fairness. 6 minutes. Marquise had one at 6:03. And if I’m looking at the plays. We only really had 2 bad possessions in the last 6….
-Layup by Marquise.
-Turnover by Clemons... he dribbled into the corner and was getting ridden out of bounds, forced a pass to Hall (bad possession)
-Next possession. Fazekas flops while being backed down by Tate, drawing a charge. The Tate post up has been MONEY this year.
-Next possession. Fazekas draws another charge, as Hall drives to the rim, the crowd thinks it’s an And-1... the announcers even called it like an And 1. Replay shows Fazekas’s feet weren’t really set… announcers comment that it’s an “interesting” call. I could see calling one or the other, but both going Valpo’s way was really surprising.
-Next possession, we force a defensive stop, Lucas is fouled on the rebound, and we miss the front end of a one and one
-Next possession, Marquise draws the foul and misses two free throws
-Next possession, we run the offense, Keith gets a WIDE open look near the top of the arc with about 8 seconds left, misses, Marquise rebounds, splits free throws.
-Next possession (the one truly bad possession of the stretch) Marquise gets D’d up by Freeman and blocked, Clemons throws up a prayer and we get a shot clock violation.
-Next possession. Krut gets it in space, drives and is fouled, splits the pair.
-Game.
I don't know about other games, but this game seems to pretty simply be "We suck at free throws".
