No. 2 Loyola's men's volleyball squad beat Erskine and Mount Olive in straight sets over the weekend. Meanwhile, #1 Stanford-- ahead of Loyola by only five points in the men's volleyball national rankings-- lost at #6 UCLA on Friday and plays at #11 UC Santa Barbara tonight. No. 3 Pepperdine, just 11 points behind Loyola, had one match this week in which they won at #5 USC (Loyola's only loss). So it could be tight in the poll on Monday, considering that Loyola won both matches, but had less than stellar competition.

Santa Barbara defeated Stanford last night so there is sure to be a new no.1 this week. The chatter on the volleyball forums seems to be that Pepperdine will move into the top spot with Loyola remaining in second.
It certainly is nice to see a Loyola team being mentioned as a possible number 1 in the nation!

Message boards were right. The ranking just came out, and Pepperdine is #1 with 12 votes for #1, Loyola is #2 with 6 votes for #1. No other teams got votes for the top spot.
