So that Shaka Smart got his contract extended at Texas. Tough when you move up in the conferences to repeat the success at the lower level.
Much tougher than it seems; Liklihter from Butler to Iowa, Drew from Valpo to Vandy were two that come to mind along with the first Butler coach who turned the program around and then flopped at Nebraska. And how about Chris Mullins an icon as a player at St.John's and decided to pack it in.
Be careful what you wish for. How many have tried at DePaul since the Meyer's left?
Did Smart get extended? His contract was already pretty long and expensive; plus I doubt schools want to be spending a ton of money right now.
That's why DePaul is in the worst position right now. A school like Texas wouldn't need to give any sort of extension; they can ride him out for another year. Apparently, Leitao's contract runs out in April. They need to either extend him or they won't have a coach.
As for DePaul, they've technically had 4 coaches since Joey Meyer: Kennedy got them to one tournament, Leitao had success during his first tenure there, Wainwright and Purnell left a lot to be desired.
