Were there any major transfers to the Valley who were denied waivers we think this will impact?

Don't think it's homerism to say Anderson is probably the biggest from a recruiting rankings standpoint.

It will be interesting to see how Porter uses Anderson this season and where he fits in the rotation.

If I understand correctly, the NCAA action today applies only to THIS season, and is not a blanket endorsement of a no-sit transfer rule for subsequent years.
Such a blanket endorsement would require another vote in the future.

I believe that's right. The logic behind this waiver is that when you add the impacts teams dealing with COVID and opt outs to the normal injuries that come up during a season, they need to have as many players as possible available to play to get competitive games in.

All this does is make us that much stronger. Anderson is in practice playing with our guys every day. He will be yet another weapon, particularly in our Game 2s in conference play, to go out and provide energy off the bench.

This is a good thing in my opinion. I’m very interested to see how Porter is going to play him.

It’s potentially a very good thing. If he’s better, then play him. But, again, that’s the coach’s call based on what he’s been seeing in practice. I did notice he was at Wisconsin and in practice gear in the shoot around video they shared.

Also keep in mind we’re short Frank right now, so another weapon that’s versatile enough to play a wing type position would be a nice luxury. You never know what will happen with injuries as the year progresses.

This vote has been the worst keep secret in college basketball for the last month or so, so I’m sure they have a plan for it.

Anyone have any knowledge on what type of game Anderson has? or how he will fit into our system? Will he be a Donte Ingram type of guy? Does he have inside and outside game? Can he put the ball on the floor? I pretty much trust Porter when he brings a guy in but he has had some mis-steps specifically with really athletic guys Pipkens, Satterwhite.....as two examples.....

The only thing we really have to go off of are his recruiting videos. Ingram might be a good comp based on those, but I think he has an inch or two on Donte. But it’s tough to say how, or if, he’s developed at all the last two years with such limited playing time at Indiana.

He’s a complete crapshoot. The raw talent is there, it’s just a question of how he fits into the system, and his willingness and ability to play within it. There’s really only one way to find out.

His ceiling is probably comparable to what Aundre Jackson brought to the team - quick, crafty down low, can shoot if needed, and is a tall body to have in the game.

His floor is probably comparable to Uguak - has some height, is athletic, can do some things right, but isn’t a complete or consistent player.

One unique thing about him is his quick shot release. He fires shots 0 to 60 from the moment he decides to throw one up.

You just never know what you’re getting with a transfer and how he will adapt.

When it was announced Custer was joining the team, I watched his videos from Iowa State and thought we were getting another Cully Payne. VERY unimpressive. Wasn’t super excited. We saw what Custer ended up being though.

After Uguak transferred and was with the team, the other players gave interviews where they made it sound like he was unstoppable. That was probably the worst thing that happened to Aher. The expectations seemed very high.

When Aundre Jackson signed, he was coming from a Community College and I don’t think anyone expected anything from him.

If you search “Damezi Anderson Indiana” video, you’ll see some explosive stuff. If you look at his stats from last year, you’ll be very disappointed.

So... who knows?
