CBS Sports is reporting he is unlikely to take the Oklahoma job. Loyola ups its offer and timing is not right for PM's family.

Oklahoma did seem like a strange fit to me, I think Porter could be successful there but I can't see him wanting to go there. Strictly with what he has said in the past about not running from happiness, the fact that his daughter is at Loyola, he just bought the Rickett mansion etc. I was thinking that this was a great way for him to get Loyola to offer a better contract.

Notre Dame wouldn't promote within the organization. 2 of their 3 assistants have less coaching experience than Valentine and aren't as good in my opinion. The other assistant coach, Ron Balanis, has been at Notre Dame since 2000. If you fire Mike Brey, you're not going to turn over the program to his right hand man. If ND makes a coaching change, I think they'll clean house completely.

As for the availability of the job, ND is on the trajectory towards becoming an ACC bottom feeder. Players aren't developing within the program. ND is very loyal to their coaches (and coaches are loyal to the school) so Brey will get a longer leash than he would at other schools, but if there isn't improvement this season, I could see them making a change.

Yeah, reporting definitely feels like a stretch. Feel like you buried the lede, Norlander citing a source saying Loyola being willing to "pony up" with their offer and Oklahoma still being in on other candidates seem like the more pertinent pieces of info here. Doyle's points are valid, but seem entirely speculative based on his knowledge/interactions/"friendship" with Porter.

If he is truly on the fence, my advice (all two cents worth) is to go where you feel you are wanted more. Want doesn’t always come in the form of cash. I know what I would do, but, as said before, I’m clearly not Porter, and would understand either way.
