2008? I believe that is around the time when Loyola College (MD) officially changed their name to Loyola University-Maryland. Since they were founded earlier than LUC - that would make them the oldest Loyola U out there. I think that is the reason.

Interesting. I did not know that. Although, ESPN and others have been referring to us as "Loyola (IL)" since I came to Loyola in 2002.

It's the parenthesis that is annoying.

It's not like there are schools named "Loyola University Chicago" all over the place such that you have to differentiate. Loyola Chicago or LUC is the way to go, IMO.

Maybe branding us as Loyola Chicago would help us get more Chicago recruits

I like "Loyola of Chicago." Sounds nicer, and is less likely to be hyphenated, Loyola-Chicago. I don't like the look of Wisconsin-Green Bay or Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Loyola (Il) is stupid though... Where do we have to lobby to get that changed?

I'd think that if we really wanted to make a point of it, we could have the Athletic Department stipulate the proper usage in all of our media releases and ask the MVC media people to stress that fact in their correspondence with media (e.g. media guides, releases, etc.) I don't know that we've ever taken sustained action to discourage that usage. We're also fighting years of the press using that format, so don't expect it to change overnight.

I guess I'm old enough to remember the days when Wichita University would play Loyola. You guys will always be Loyola to me and the others just the others with hypenated locations. Most of the publications kind of skim over the valley unless you have made a name very recently and it seems WSU will be their media darling this year. Looking forward to the start of good basketball between our schools.
