No Furman, but Vandy is a nice surprise!

I believe Vandy is where former Drake center Liam Robbins transferred (from Minnesota)

All things considered, this looks like a pretty good schedule

I was under the impression that Furman was a done deal? Who pulled out of the game? Us or them?

This is an awesome schedule!

1. 6 home games we should win and pad our record/build confidence
2. 3 winnable quality road/neutral games
3. 3 opportunities for Statement wins on the national stage against high quality, NCAA tournament teams.

I would have liked a MAC school instead of Roosevelt, but that’s my only complaint.

The six we should obviously win are our home games against:

Coppin State
Florida golf coast
Chicago State
UIC
Roosevelt
Norfolk State

The winnable road/neutral site games are:

Depaul
Davidson
Vanderbilt

We have three chances to boost our résumé against:

Michigan state
UConn/Auburn
Oregon/Syracuse/VCU/Baylor

Realistically, I would be very happy with 8-4 going into conference conference play. 9-3 would make me ecstatic depending on if we were able to knock someone out in the Bahamas.

It’s exciting to see a schedule put together that actually gives us a CHANCE at an at-large bid, depending on how we do.

I can’t even describe how impressed I have been with Valentine in just this short time he’s taken over at the helm. He kept almost all are core guys to bring back this year, held on to our Ivy transfers, AND is successful recruiting and competing with other big schools to get 3 star athletes to Rogers Park.

College Sports Madness’ annual preseason Top 144 has Norfolk State at 140 and projected to win the MEAC. So that might be a potential under-the-radar decent game for the resume.

Besides Norfolk State at 140, College Sports Madness has Evansville at 125 (!!?!), UNI at 103, and Davidson at 85. If we had Furman on the schedule, they're at 79.

Norfolk State won't be anywhere near 140. CSM's system of the top 144 previews includes the teams they believe will win the weakest conferences-- the ones without teams in the top 200-- such as the MEAC, SWAC, and NEC.

CSM has three MVC teams listed better than 79... Loyola, Drake, and Missouri State. So we'll have more games against teams in/near the top 100 this season than any year in recent memory.... 2 against Drake, 2 against Missouri State, 2 against UNI, Davidson, Michigan State, and the two final games of the Battle4Atlantis. Vandy isn't going to be very good this season (they finished 14th in the SEC last year), but they'll still probably be near the top 100-- they were 104 in KenPom last year, and the worst SEC team was 137. Same is possible with DePaul if they win a few non-cons and win some home conference games against the bottom half of the Big East. Two years ago, DePaul finished 3-15 in the Big East, but won most of their non-cons to rank 94 in KenPom. So we could have 10-12 games against teams in KenPom's top 100 if things break a little better than expected for us.
