-- Freshman Miles Rubin, playing an average of only 17 minutes per game through his first six college games, is on pace to break Loyola's 39-year old single season blocks record in the February 18 game against Rhode Island, the 26th game of the season. At this pace, he would break Andre Moore's career blocks record at Loyola in the first two games of his junior season, or late in his sophomore year if the Ramblers make runs in the A-10 tournament or postseason.

-- Chicago State has 14 players on their men's basketball roster, and 10 of them are from Florida.

-- Former Loyola player Saint Thomas has averaged 19.6 points per game thus far playing big minutes at Northern Colorado. He's scored the second-most points of any player in the Big Sky conference this year, and leads the conference in rebounds. He's also third in the conference in assists and first in turnovers. He recently played 41 minutes in Northern Colorado's 78-77 OT win over Chicago State.

-- It's still very early, but the parity in the A-10 is shaping up as something of a real oddity. With every team having played 4 to 6 games in the new season, 9 of the 15 teams in the conference are projected by KenPom to have between 8 and 10 conference wins in an 18-game conference schedule: two teams tied at 10-8, three teams tied at 9-9, and four teams tied at 8-10.

-- The A-10 briefly passed the West Coast Conference a few days ago in KenPom's conference ranking to break into single digits in conference strength (9th), but a bad day of games Thursday and Friday knocked the conference back to 10th. The MVC has surged up from 13th to 11th on the strength of Bradley and UIC's performances. If the A-10 gets some good wins and avoids bad losses, the 8th place is in reach, because the American Athletic Conference is struggling with new members Florida Atlantic, North Texas, UAB, UTSA, Rice, and Charlotte not making up for the loss of Houston, Cincinnati, and UCF.

-- Long Beach State beat DePaul and Michigan on the road, but lost to Illinois State on a neutral court. LBSU also beat Iona, which has former Loyola assistant Patrick Wallace and last year's video coordinator Kyle Washington on their staff under Head Coach Tobin Anderson.

Feel free to add any Oddities, Wierdness, Bizarre Coincidences, or Crazy Stats in this thread.... This is the stuff that makes college basketball so fun....

Scott Spinelli is an assistant coach for Chicago State. He held same position with us from 2001-03.

Has anyone noticed how good Indiana State has become? They're 7-1, and ranked 67th in KenPom. And a big part of it is one-time Rambler recruit Robbie Avila from Oak Forest, who's putting up Krutwig-like numbers.... 17.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 4.2 assists per game. Kid had 27 points and 8 assists against Rice, 22 points and 9 rebounds against Bradley.

his career mirrors Krutwig. That was a big miss for us because he wasn't an "A 10" player. He most likely would have gone to loyola if we showed more interest.

Is that what happened? It seemed like we were pretty keen on him for a bit.

Braden Norris is shooting 96.4% on free throws this season. He has only missed once.

Actually, as of now Kenpom has A10 as 8th best conference. I have seen where many people are trying to sell the Mountain West as a potential 6 bid league. That's ridiculous. They are the 7th best conference. We know the P5 conferences grab a majority of the bids and us why A10 might only get one bid. I expect Dayton to get a bid. Other than that probably a one bid league unless someone other than Dayton wins A10 tourney.

Because they are?

San Diego State
Boise State (legit team now, and especially if they keep winning like they are now)
Utah State
New Mexico (should get bid unless they flame out)
Colorado State

5 for sure. 6th and iffy would be Nevada IMO. Nevada has had a few junk losses.

Each of these teams would probably win A10 and also give Dayton a run. Speaking of which, I think our guys are capable of doing same too :)

Yeah the Mountain West is ranked 7th, but that’s due to the weakness of the bottom 4 schools. But the top 6 all have NET rankings in the top 60, with the top 4 teams in the top 27. All quad 1 road games and 4 quad 1 games home or away. That’s better than the PAC-12, and almost on par with the Big East. All legit at-large contenders….unless one of them slips up and loses to one of the terrible bottom 1/3 of the conference schools.

He only took 1 shot on Saturday (a made 3-pointer from the halfcourt logo)

He's 9 for his last 17 (52.9%) from 3 over the last 5 games, which includes a 2 for 8 vs. UMass.

He's 16 for his last 27 (59.2%) from 3 over the last 7 games and 22 for 37 (59.4%) from the field overall.

64.4% Effective FG% (33rd in the nation)

68.6% True Shooting% (13th in the nation)
