There's an article in today's online Crain's Chicago Business about the real vs. the actual attendance at DePaul basketball games.

Quote:
This past season, the official average number of fans that went to DePaul home games at Allstate Arena was even lower: 2,610 based on the Ticketmaster scan system, which tracks exactly how many people come inside.

That is far below DePaul's reported average home game attendance of 7,938 over those 16 home games. Over the course of the entire season, the school reported total attendance at Allstate Arena at 127,020. The actual attendance was 41,771.

A DePaul spokesman said they count "a couple thousand" students who pay a $25 student activities fee to be able to attend games free (whether they show up or not), plus tickets donated to charities.

Wow. The word overestimated barely covers it when you're talking about actual attendance being 1/3 of what is reported.

There were more Loyola fans at the game last December at the allstate than depaul fans. Their attendance situation will not get any better at the new arena (after the first season) unless they are able to consistently win which they have not been able to do for years. time will tell, but i just cant see how a tax payer funded arena off campus will be a good situation for them.

This is not really news to anyone who has ever attended a DePaul basketball game. I've gone to a few DePaul games with my buddy (who is a DePaul alum) and the average attendance seemed pretty similar to Loyola's. At least they have an excuse...their games are played in Rosemont, which is about 45 minutes away from campus. Our games on the other hand are played smack dab in the middle of campus. On the bright side, better scheduling and consistent success will help us turn that around. Same goes for the Demons. DePaul already plays against top notch opponents; all they have to do is start winning. Ultimately, their path toward relevance in college hoops will be easier than ours...

On the other Heading I discussed the same thing--DePewl has apparently sold out to get a new arena--I like the way we at LUC did it--Reimagine !!

Its all ours we are beholden to nobody--I feel this leaves DePewl short on Ethics

Typical of Chgo Pols--We now will have three Arenas within about two miles of one another--

Lots of debt--Why pile more on more ? But more to the point DePewl apparently sold out.

This is all a scam for Rahm to entice some entity to run a hotel casino complex. I dont think it will ever get done since his support is eroding everyday. I would be surprised if he gets re-elected

I agree that it is probably a plan to build a casino complex at McCormick Place. I don't agree that he won't get re-elected. He has seen his support erode but the one thing that would defeat him, a strong contender, isn't present. Who is going to run against him? Karen Lewis?

As long as the garbage gets picked up, the street lights go on and water makes it to houses...he'll get re-elected.
