Natetheskate thank you for starting this thread. I think it's such an important topic and there has to be something that us Ramblermaniacs can do. I don't exactly know what that is... but there has to be something. I would definitely like to help as well, but I myself don't know what it is that I could do...and I don't know if it would make a difference.

For me... I've always thought it gets down to figuring out a way to get the students there. Figuring out a way to make it a part of student "culture" that you go to the games... When it's a part of student culture than it organically grows into a young alumni "culture" that you go to the games... so on and so forth! I hate to be so morbid... but in the next 20-30 years a HUGE portion of our fan base will no longer be with us. We have to do something about it...

you know I worry about the student attendance. However it does not just seem to be our problem. The big time consistently winning schools seem to draw but otherwise there seems to be a disconnect between students and athletics. I have developed a couple of theories. One I think has to do with the prevalence of All-star traveling teams that start at such a young age and eliminate kids so early from sports . The other is the preferential treatment that I believe some students think athletes get. So students see the athletes as separate from the other students. Somehow the students need to see themselves and the athletes as members of the same community. We seem to have good guys and good students....athletes that should be supported...I feel bad when I cant make it to a game cuz I think these guys work hard, Well lets keep coming up with ideas...and I think one thing we can all do is email AD Watson and tell him we want a better atmosphere and we like having the students there and it is depressing when crowds are slim. Let him know we want a change.

I appreciate your support and hope you can do something about it even earlier than the 20-30 year time frame. My Docs are also working on it.

I hate to see a thread labeled "Let's Do Something" turn into a discussion of the lack of student attendance. This should be about what we can do. Now (see morbidity references above). The suggestion was that we can gather together as a group at a specified game and make a lot of noise. Seems like a great idea that's simple enough. Nate, what was the negative reaction that made you back off?

I was also curious what that negative thing was...

Agree about the students. We can't do much about them, so let other people worry about that. They aren't going to let a bunch of middle aged guys wander through the dorms before a game and round people up.

I think a Ramblermania group sitting together could be fun. Anybody willing to be our cheerleader?

I guess I thought I would get a few more responses.....but I have already sent some of the ideas up the ladder. Let me see what kind of response I get from higher ups....if not much....we will take matters into our own hands!!!!!!!!! Everyone still have their freshman beannie....I got mine.
