You didn't mention the option of showing up the Saturday before, getting hammered at the second largest Mardi Gras in the country, waking up on Sunday with only $5 left after blowing most of your money at the clubs East of the river, then winning enough money back at the casino to pay for the next five days plus your ticket.

Actually, somewhat seriously, the Lumiere is a real nice Vegas style land casino with a Four Seasons hotel.

I also didn't mention a few of my favorite restaurants. There's a divey gourmet calzone place called Sauce on the Side at 903 Pine Street (about six short blocks from Scottrade Center) that's really good, and highly rated on Yelp. (http://eatcalzones.com/ ) I also like Vito's Ristorante (http://vitosstl.com/) at 3515 Lindell Blvd. (near Grand, across from St. Louis U.), but it can be really crowded sometimes. And Mango, a Peruvian restaurant at 1101 Lucas Ave. (a block off Washington Ave.) is a really nice, more upscale place with a fantastic menu, great music, and a party atmosphere (http://mangoperu.com/‎).

Having the tournament during Mardi Gras a couple years back was brutal. I'm so glad that it doesn't work that way often. The sea of plastered college kids got rather annoying.

While it would be great to stay close there are tons of places to stay both east and west and no more than 20 minutes away. Having gone to St. Louis almost every year for the last 60 some....we have gotten used to staying in Collensville Ill on the way down. Depending on traffic 10 to 15 minutes to Bush Stadium which is probably 5 from the site of the Tournament. You usually cut about 30% from the price of staying downtown. There are also lots of little areas in St. Louis. Being a history buff I love the Museum of Western Expansion under the Arch. Anyway here are a couple of sites to explore St. Louis. Also the Bowling Hall of Fame is there. Reminds me of when we were in the old Midwest City Conference and I got to visit the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City or when I went to Valporaso and visited the Caseys Gas Station.
Hey there is also the Loyola Academy in St.Louis, a Jesuit Middle School . Maybe we could get the kids a day off to come root for the Ramblers.

Staying out by the airport isn't horrible. You can hop on the Metro nearby and be downtown in about 10 minutes. I've done that once and it wasn't too bad. We could still jump in a car and head somewhere if need be without navigating the downtown area. And if the weather is bad/cold, it's better than walking 3+ blocks to many of the hotels as the Metro drops you off right across the street essentially.

Maybe--Just maybe I will be able to come to the Party---As I have reported ad nauseum, some people think my 84 years disqualify me from doing good stuff--Well , I am lobbying to change that. Hopefully my Sons and Daughter plus Dr Alexis--new--will go along--I shall know by month's end. I feel great thank Heavens !!
