Loyola should be in serious contention for a CIT bid with one more win. Hopefully it is a home game, which would take place March 17th or 18th. St. Patrick's Day at the Joe? Former Loyola head coaching candidate Kyle Macy is on the committee as well as the former UDM coach Perry Watson.

The CBI is usually made up of more FBS/BCS team and it probably out of reach given Loyola's record. However the Ramblers seem perfect for a CIT bid and possible deep run. So there may be a few more home games left after Saturday if all turns out well.

Didn't Mach turn us down? If so, don't be surprised if he does so again. I am not optimistic about our chances especially at home.
Regardless, Porter is to be commended for the fine job he has done with very limited resources. It has been a fun season.

Streak, does that mean you do not think Loyola will pay the funds to host a CIT game?

Whoa ! Wait just a minute !! 25 advises that PM did a fine job ON LIMITED RESOURCES !!!!!! What is that all about ?? I thought the school was committed to going all out for this team. Have I been fooled ?? What's going on?? If we cannot or will not commit to what is needed to participate post season, then I have a PROBLEM--

Would some please explain ?? Thanks !!

Just speculating here, but maybe Grace Calhoun's travel vouchers put a bigger hole in the basketball budget than I thought, which would explain the "limited resources" comment.

I think what Streak is saying - and correct me if I'm wrong - is that while LU has increased it's operating budget, we still lag behind our peers in terms of allocated resources.

I think if we win on Saturday and pull off one win in the conf tournament, we'll get a post-season bid. That'd be a record of 17-13 (only D1 would count) and I think that'd be enough for a bid - maybe.

I agree 08, but to host a game Loyola has to pay money. Are they willing to pay money to host a game, or will they be fine with playing on the road. I guess you could still host a game later in the tourney if you keep winning.

Whoa, let not put the cart before the horse.

What I said was that I do not think we will be asked particularly if we do not win a first round game.

You have to be asked before you have a decision to make.

If we are asked, my impression if that we would accept and the Ad would find the funds to host a first round game.

I have had a limited number of conversations with the AD, and I mean very limited.

My impressions are:

1. he is an excellent listener.
2. non emotional in his decisions;
3. makes judgments based upon the facts;
4. is very confident in his abilities;
5. knows what it takes to put together a first class program;
6. is very politically astute;
7. is very retail oriented in that he wants to get to know the alums and sees them as a valuable aspect of Loyola
8. and understands how important it is to demonstrate results.

How we did not hire this guy in the first round is a real mystery? On a alarming note, to me it just validates how f'd up the search process was. Father G was not involved and the search to me was conducted as a self serving turf battle by the levels under Father G.

Loyola got SW through a comedy of errors but got lucky because THE BEST GUY was available. (of the outside candidates. A certain former player alum would have also been a fine choice but the way he was treated was disgusting at best).

PM should be given a big pat on the back for getting the results he got. For almost a year no one wanted to make decisions and things drifted. If SW had been the AD I can almost say with certainty that Marlon Jones would have been wearing the maroon and gold this year. SW is the kind of guy who will fight through the bs to get things done and will fight for his coaches. He also will let good people do their jobs. I think he can navigate around the LU politics just fine. You can see his imprint already if you look close enough.

We will all get the program that we deserve and have waited so long to get.

We are finally heading in the right direction with the right coach and the right AD. I will be very curious to watch how the 4 and 20 women's team situation is handled.
I would give that one more year.

On a sidebar, Loyola is listed on the Great Alaska shootout as a participant along with Alaska Anchorage and Cal State Bakersfield and five TBA's. So with Creighton, UIC, and Texas San Antonio (UTSA) at the Norville and DePaul at the All State arena, it will be interesting to see the AD influence on the rest of the schedule.

Whether travel expenses were a factor in budget overruns was really a minor issue. The root cause of the overruns was the removal of Hitch as the overseer. In the beginning a lot of money was spent on signs for the arena. That was a huge chunk of it. It was thought that advertising would be a revenue source but somehow putting United Airlines logo on the roof for the fly over jets landing. (The Norville is readily viewable on the east to west landing path) did not work out as planned so the money was spent and was not replaced. That created a shortfall. It was not some financial malfeasance. Too often when someone leaves they get blamed for a lot of things and cannot defend themselves against what is not true. A good leader merges the old valuable resources with new competent ones. They build teams and do not pit people against each other nor do they favor the new over the old. I think in part that was a big part of what went wrong with the last regime.

In any event, time to move on and enjoy the successful year we have had and to look to a bright future.

Does anybody know how much it actually costs to host a CIT game? I can't imagine it is all that much.
