Well, little by little we are climbing out of the huge hole that previous administrations dug us into. Remember, ol Brot saw us prior to our attaining the 1963 triumph. We were in the 40s 50s and early 60s a national force--It was routine for us to play and beat (sometimes) the likes of Illinois, Kentucky UCLA Indiana Holy Cross ( they were good--Cousy) St John's and on and on. And oh yes --WICHITA STATE !! Now, we finally have inched ahead little by little on our way back to the upper crust.
Remember--next year was supposed to be the year--
--Stepping stones--
---Hiring of Porter Moser--good coach great recruiter
---Expansion of Gentile
---Entry into Missouri Valley Conf--Famous and great schools
---improvement in other Sports--see Men's VB
---Entire RE-IMAGINE program
---Fr G commitment to Athletics--Men' Hoops VB and the rest
---Improved Hoops schedule--Las Vegas Tourney ( a win) --next year Great Alaska Shootout
---An early rise to sixth from last in MVC
---A win in tourney last season.
---A big win AT Kent St.
---A huge win against Indiana St in this year's tourney
---A bid to post season tournament--first in THIRTY YERAS !!
These are but a few of the early signs of resurgence in our Men's Hoops program
We are now on our way back--not only to the top of the Valley--a great and valuable goal, but to being a REGULAR annual part of the NCAA BIG DANCE !!

Some things still need fixing--Watson will see to these--eg attendance-better radio and TV contracts --These are but two--

I can now say , that my doubts re the commitment by Admin have been lessened by a lot.

WAY TO GO RAMBLERS--KEEP RAMBLIN' !!!!

First, I am not surprised that this will happen. Loyola really struck gold (and maybe maroon too) when it got Steve Watson. Seven of us fans had dinner with him Saturday night after the loss to Northern Iowa. Mr. Watson is extremely friendly and has a great sense of humor. He knows how to get things done and does it behind the scenes. He works very hard and has great people skills. He also clearly understands the political structure and its importance. It was interesting to see him work the room.
Second, he is very confident in his abilities but does not seek the limelight. At the two pre game pep rallies he mingled with the alums but did not seek the limelight.
He let the team have the spotlight and the glory. He will fight for his coaches and go to bat to make sure they get what they need to get the job done.

A quick story. Six Wichita state fans came into the restaurant we were having dinner at and commented on the Loyola scarfs that were passed out to the Loyola fans. They thought it was a great idea as one could very quickly tell who were Loyola fans even in the far corners of the arena. One said how nice it would be to have a Loyola scarf. So Steve takes his off of his shoulders and places it on the shoulders of the Shocker fan and says, "there that was an easy one to do!". It really cracked everyone up.

After reading the "scarf/WSU" post above, I thought I would post this here even though it's not related to men's basketball, but does involve good sportsmanship among WSU and Loyola.

http://www.kansas.com/sports/college/wi ... 56169.html

Fans can have a "love/hate" type of attitude which can show respect of the other team and players. Sometimes, things happen that make that difficult or not happen at all, but it's nice to see when it does. Like last year when IN St played at WSU in Jake Odum's last game here, as he was taken out of the game late (not to return), Ron Baker came up to him and gave him a hug then held his arms up waving to the fans to give Jake a nice send off which of course happened. That's two guys you'll never need to question their competitiveness, but they can still have respect for each other.

Wish you the best in your post season. You'd might have had a shot at the NIT had Doyle not gone down for a while or lost out on Jones.
