Because there's obviously some beef about Northwestern never playing Loyola, Chris Collins told me they received a CBI bid but declined.
Have no idea if he was aware of a possible matchup with Loyola or if he just felt a Big Ten team was too good for the CBI.

NU has never been to the tournament...they're not "too good." Too pompous, more like it

UCSB is a very good team. RPI of 87, 19-13 on the year, beat Washington State by 28, lost by 10 at Kansas, lost by 7 at SMU, lost by 4 at Oregon, beat Vermont, Florida Gulf Coast, lost Great Alaska Shootout final to Colorado State by two points.

An interesting note: the CBI utilizes the 30 second shot clock.

Also interesting is the Championship isn't one game, but a 3 game series

Penn State was in the CBI last year, with an almost identical record to NU. Purdue was in the year before that.

It seems the perception of the CBI may have changed for power-5 teams. Michigan, Penn State and Northwestern all declined bids this year.

I also feel that this year the many more power 5 teams have turned down offer than in the past. It probably just does not make sense for many of them to pay to host games they consider minor.

Too Bad ! Mich NU and Penn St all turned CBI down ?? I say , too bad as I feel we could have beaten all of them--Arrogant Pups !! Just another reason for me to despise the Big 14 or so.

BTW, I like our chances against this CBI field--Santa Barb will be tough--But let's get by Rider first !!
GO RAMBLERS !! We all or most of us have been waiting 30 years !! Hope this will be the onset of a string of tourney appearances .

Thinking ahead wonder how the second round works? Do we host or would ORU/UCSB? Higher seed although no official seeds?

Colorado is the only "power 5" team. I am guessing quite a few turned down the offer.

Yeah...not too impressed with the field. I was hoping for the opportunity to get a few wins over P-5 programs.

Nevertheless, this is still a nice opportunity for us to extend the season and get a few more wins under our belt. Based on a quick scan of Rider's schedule, they seem to have lucked out on several close games. I think we'll beat Rider and go on to face UC Santa Barbara in the next round.

Hopefully we get a nice crowd!

Go Ramblers!
