Nice! To bad he will have to sit, but he should fit in nicely in two years when we have lost Earl, Turk, and Keke at guard.

Have to imagine Ben Richardson deserves some credit for this one.

Ben is for sure an important part of why he came here but also it shows that our program and reputation is growing.

I don't want to overstate it, but I think the CBI run went a long way toward getting a player like Custer. Sure, you've got Ben Richardson able to give good reviews on what it's like to play at Loyola and in the Valley-- if Custer is looking for significant playing time immediately, there's nobody better than Richardson to vouch for that aspect. But the administration going all out on the CBI and the team coming through to win it has to be a huge drawing card. Maybe you don't want to shell out the money it costs to participate in a C-tournament every year, but given our circumstances in 2014-15, it was an absolutely appropriate and needed expenditure. I think a part of a player like Custer making the decision to go with Loyola can be chalked up to that committment and the performance by the team to follow through and win it.

Could not agree more. Showing recruits that were moving toward the Big Dance AND we are committed to the program has proven to be a very, very wise move by new leader. Thank you, Mr. Watson!

Along the same lines as Nate, I am keeping an eye on Clayton Custer, a freshman point guard on Iowa State who was a 4 star recruit on the same high school team as Ben Richardson.

Custer has only appeared in 8 games for Iowa State, and is buried behind a talented soph. pg. Hoping he might consider transferring to a mid major for more playing time, and it would make sense that he might want to be reunited with his hs running mate.

Let's not lose sight of the BIG STORY here...which is that I practically predicted this almost 6 weeks ago, as my March 9th post quoted above shows. This was weeks before Custer even announced that he was transferring from Iowa State, and when nobody else was remotely linking Custer and Loyola.

To take it up a notch, let me humbly suggest that it's highly likely that Custer is coming to Loyola because I planted the seed in my March 9th post. Sure Ben Richardson, Porter Moser and Steve Watson may have played a small part in Custer's decision, but I was surely the Mother of Invention.

How about giving Momma swella the credit s/he deserves?...kidding (of course).

Now let's see if my Nate Navigato speculation comes true too. Rhys Vague is another name to keep in mind, as I've mentioned elsewhere.

No question this helped. Moser and staff can recruit. Kudos to them to get Custer to commit and not visit his two remaining schools.

Things fell apart with Jones and Smart but these were the type of players, like Custer, that we were even considered before.

The biggest payoff will not be this recruiting class but the next one where we are in the running for some very good players.
