Anybody watching?

We are up 45-24 at half.

Defense picked up late in the half. Among the newcomers Tyson Smith looks good.

Well. its a start--but a mediocre one. Lots of work to do--BUT we will learn from this.

Our vets were good --how about our rooks ??

Just got back from it. We looked solid and I was happy to see a lot of the new players. Tyson smith looked good and I think Pernell has a lot of athleticism that will shine once he gets more settled and comfortable. I wouldn't be too worried about the score at the end of the game we still were clearly the better team throughout and it didn't worry me about the upcoming season. In the end it was what you want from a preseason game the players got game time together and no one was hurt.

Yeah I agree with Johnny.

We hit a big scoring drought in the second half. Lewis made a few nice plays and hit free throws (which we also did not do in the second half).

Neither coach seemed particularly thrilled with the officiating. It's going to be an adventure for awhile.

Interesting comment Hunte re the refs--Did not know the new rules or what ?? After what we all saw in the BB playoffs and the UMPS-STRIKE ZONE , we need no more poor officiating !!!

Milton seemed to be his usual self--from the running stats, I saw-- He , like last year waited around to see what was happening and then took off, no?

As Johnny mentioned, the score wasn't indicative of the overall play. Things got a little sloppy on the offensive end in the 2nd half and the guys settled for some tough shots that weren't falling, but it was clear who the better team was. Props to Lewis though as their kids seemed fired up for the game...it seemed like their bench stood for most of it.

As far as the refs, I thought they did fine for the first 20 mins, but the second 20 were inconsistent. I think both teams were already in the double bonus by the 10 minute mark of the 2nd half and it completely killed the flow. Obviously it's an exhibition for the refs as much as the players, but Coach has preached this preseason about preparing for the rule changes and he was still visibly frustrated by some calls.

The last time we played Lewis in an exhibition, we lost by 12. They're a pretty good D-II team, going 22-9 last year and making the second round of the D-II NCAA tournament. Last year they lost to DePaul by four points, Notre Dame by 23, and Illinois State by nine. So beating them by 10 after possibly letting the foot off the gas a bit is OK with me. Four of their starters were on last year's team, and the other is a transfer from D1 Lehigh, so they might actually be even better this year. And they have more size down low than we do.

I wasn't able to see what was going on, but I followed the stat feed. Two minutes into the second half we led by 25. We've just gotta keep opposing teams off the line, and defend the three. Turk seemed to have a really good game-- 17 points, a key steal late in the game as Lewis was cutting into the lead, and leading the team in assists. James had a good game, except he was .000 in three tries from the free throw line, and I had hoped he'd work on that. Only 2 points and 2 rebounds in 13 minutes for Kirby, so it appears Donte Ingram (8 points, 7 boards) will be doing most of the heavy lifting replacing Christian Thomas.

If this is possible...I thought Turk got his 17 points quietly. It was one of those things where you knew he was playing well, but didn't realize how many he had scored until seeing the stat sheet. At least for me.

I thought Montel was great most of the night. The FTs were disappointing and he hit a dry spell, but so did everyone. He still scored a tough bucket in the 2nd half, with Lewis guys all over him, that helped quell their comeback.

It was great to get back to the Norville center and see a game, albeit an exhibition game.
Starters were Ingram, Doyle, James, Peterson and Turk. In the first half we looked fantastic. The first rotation saw five new players with Kirby, Adegei, White, Richardson and Smith coming in as a unit. Rajala, the eleventh and final player, saw action half way through the first half.
I liked the choice of starters. Kirby who came off the bench is definitely a big body and will really be an asset on defense as his presence will negate the pure size differential many teams had on us last year. A real hidden gem will be Adegei as his size, athletic ability and poise will really make a difference. With some experience I would definitely see him starting by next year. Very impressed with how over the years the quality of the recruits has really improved. I expect that trend to continue next week with the announcement period. We definitely have the size and depth to compete and some great guard play. I thought that Rajala would get more playing time as I think he could really contribute. With only eleven active, healthy players (Knuth was walking around with a sling on) I would see every player getting some time almost every game.
When Lewis cut the gap to about eight, it seemed like the Ramblers just stepped on the gas, got serious and opened up the lead again.
This is the best we have looked in the Moser regime.
Better days are definitely here.
Hats off also to the athletic department for their commitment to the program. Getting into the Paradise Classic in St. Thomas next year is a real plus and having the dollars for Coach to go to Europe to recruit shows the seriousness of the effort. I was a little disappointed in the size of the crowd but then it is an exhibition.
Heard that Creighton is buying a lot of tickets as the farm boys have decided to come and see what a big city is. To them Des Moines is a major metropolis.
I expect Creighton and Wichita State to be sell outs.
There was also a nice event on Thursday night at Luxbar as a fund raiser. From the silent auction items sold, it looks like some nice cash was raised.
Saw Pete Brennan and Tim Nolan at the event. Hard to believe so much time has passed.
I predict we will beat EVERY team in the Valley at least once.
