Sullivan's best team in the 84-85 season had 5 starters from the public league. I was a season ticket holder for those home games at Depaul. In my memory none of those players were ever ineligible. However, it was not a well kept secret that several were academically at risk. Mike H.

There is a BIG difference between not having the grades to make it into college and not having the REQUIRED PREREQUISITE COURSES. I believe it is the latter we're talking about with Callum Barker. For example, as an Australian, maybe he didn't have an American History class or its equivalent. Maybe he had too few science classes and more than the required literature classes. My understanding is there was a missing class in a subject area composing the high school record, not a deficiency in grades per se.

We know that Barker met the NCAA core courses requirement because he was ruled eligible to play this year by the NCAA Eligibilty Center. So the question is, as JCT pointed out, what course did he lack which Loyola requires over and above the NCAA? I was wondering about American History myself, but maybe it's Political Correctness, Diversity Indoctrination & Feminist Screeds 101.

I plan to email Admissions to inquire. I doubt if I'll get an answer, but it is a first step in my mission to expose the culprits to public ridicule.

I mean, Loyola has plenty of international students, so I can't imagine the hold up was that simple.

You are probably right that it's a little more complicated than that (At least I hope it is), and we'll probably never know the full answer unless somebody from the Athletic Department leaks it.
But the fact remains that he was found eligible by the NCAA and admitted to Bradley, a school with good academics, so I have to wonder what purpose was served by the decision to deny his admission at Loyola. Australia by repute has a good educational system, and they speak English to boot.
I'm worried how Croatian Bruno Skokna will fare with Admissions.

I heard a rumor that Jabba is prejudiced against Austrians.

As for Barker, I remember now that Streak had also mentioned Admissions as the reason he didn't sign with the Ramblers.

Here was the original thread about him: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1171

Either that or advanced hot dog eating. Which if it was the latter and he failed the course by adding ketchup, I'd rather not have him.

Thanks for the link to the old thread on Barker.
I see now it wasn't Streak but the Bradley message board that mentioned Admissions as to why Barker didn't sign with Loyola.
