I heard it mentioned on Wednesday that the annual alumni game is on Saturday prior to our game vs. Drake. Does anyone have info on this? Can people show up for it?

Alumni Game is 10:00
Everyone is welcome. I don't know the turnout we will have. They are charging for the players guests to the reception but not the game. I don't know if that means wives and kids but since Malisch wanted to charge the players when we celebrated 30 years Im assuming you're going to pay for your family. Not the best way to get former athletes to become donors. Maybe you have to comp 50 people max with players. You wonder why former players don't come around? If it wasn't for Pat or Hitch no one would come.

Cost:
$35 Reception and game ticket includes a $10 gift to support the Rambler Varsity Fund.
$20 Reception only ticket includes a $5 gift to support the Rambler Varsity Fund.
$20 Game only ticket.
Date & Location

Date: 1/23/2016
Time: 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Location: Joan M. Steinbrecher Atrium
Damen Student Center
6511 N. Sheridan Rd.
Chicago, IL 60660

If I heard correctly next years freshman , regular freshman and their parents are coming to the game, Have no idea if they are paying or not. But I agree about charging the alumni for their families. At least two freebies all around.

While I normally try to be positive in my responses, I must admit I am extremely disappointed if the family and friends of former players are charged to attend these events. At a minimum, each former player should have four comps. For gosh sakes, how much would that really cost?
You cannot measure things in pure dollars and cents. Kind of hard for former players to want to open their wallets and donate to the university, if their prior service to the Loyola community cannot be recognized in the proper way.
It is really disgusting to be very candid!
Penny wise and pound foolish as they say.

I know tickets to the game are comped for family just not the reception.

Well that's better but it should be the whole thing. This is a special day for special people. They should not pay for anything except maybe $100 to park in the parking lot. I would go for that.

Thanks for the info! I plan on trying to be there.

For what it's worth, I think the reception is being run by Alumni Relations as an alumni event, not by Athletics. Makes a bit of a difference when you're talking about giving out comps. (I agree that it would be a great idea to have former hoopers there as guests for all parts of the day.)

If it is being run by Alumni Relations, all the more reason for the event to be comped by the University. Alumni Relations really rakes it in. If they want to tap the former athlete market, this is a good place to start. The business school rakes in hundreds of millions so they can spread some of the wealth. After all athletics is a face to the public. Invest a little to return a lot later.
