Looks like they have indeed offered Diatta's teammate Shaq Carr. Coming in for a visit next month. Wonder if we have lined one up with Diatta around the same time.

Apparently he committed to Grand Canyon yesterday.

This would be the straw that broke the camel's back if we lost a kid to Grand Canyon. Unless of course his name was Joe Dirt or Bobby Brady.

I would be fine if he committed to Grand Canyon. The Illinois class of 2017 has a lot of good players so I would rather a scholarship go to one of them.

lol

Grand Canyon was 26-6 this year. Coached by Dan Majerle.

He's also a relatively small guard for our team. Not a huge loss, it would probably be hard to get any big time JUCO point guards (Shaq was a three star recruit) this year with Clayton assuming the starting role for hopefully the next three seasons.

I'm guessing our top targets would be a big man and potentially a wing like Matt Chastain, who's now rated as a 3 star prospect on Rivals (CERTAINLY due to some diligent last minute scouting and not just the cavalcade of offers he recently received....). Although I agree that an extra spot might be better kept for next year with the strong class of 2017.

We're going to be really thin at guard, especially if Milt leaves.

On the projected roster we have Milt, Richardson, Smith, Custer, Satterwhite, and Skokna. That's six, but Smith is out for the year. If Milt leaves, that's only four guards, and precious little college experience. That is a recipe for disaster.

I think we will continue pursuing a Juco guard.

Point taken! Hadn't thought about how thin we'll be. I should say that I thought of Chastain in the guard/wing hybrid category based on what I've read. But I suppose with what our teams have been in the past he fits more of Donte's role in the system. Oh well. Signing day is only a month away...

Hopefully Coach has already heard from Milton on whether he is returning or not. It would be a shame to pull the rug after or far into the recruiting season. I hope Milt stays. This is the same scenario that cost us the Barker kid from New Zealand who ended up at Bradley.. Coach decided that we were thin at guard and Tyson Smith became the priority. Hard to say if this was the right call or not. I thought Tyson SMith was a decent player with an upside but man I would like to have had that size inside to help Montell. Also know that I think about it the Krutwig kid and the Barker kid are about the same size with the athletic edge to the Krutwig kid

Majerle is also a big name that'll come up in a lot of coaching searches, so I hope Porter continues to reach out to the kid if he believes in him until there's something signed on paper and not twitter. But, I can also appreciate 86's outrage of the optics that we're being outrecruited by Grand Canyon.

I do think this offer could be a sign Tyson Smith is getting a medical hardship, especially if this was his 2nd ACL tear. That'll open up 3 scholarship spots with 1 point guard (Custer) and a combo guard (Skokna) already on next year's team. A grad transfer here, even someone like Tony Nixon a couple of years ago who played around 5 minutes a game wouldn't be a bad thing. Both Custer and Skokna have 3+ years of eligibility, it'll be a tough sell to a current HS senior to sit behind them for most of thier career. Maybe not so much for a Joiner or Gilyard in 2017...
