KENPOM has us projected at 13-16 and 7-11 in the Valley. Interesting that San Diego State which is coming for a home game is ranked 46th. Has us ranked 8th in the Valley only ahead of Bradley and Drake.
Witchita St.(32), Northern Iowa(82) and Illinois St(95), as top 100 teams. Do not get the high ranking of Northern Iowa.

We've certainly drawn two of the toughest matchups in the MVC/MWC challenge by playing at New Mexico and hosting the best team in their league.

Pure curiosity; does anyone know where KenPom had us ranked before the CBI year?

Started at 169, finished at 133 that year.

The initial rankings are based on returning players with some inertia built in. I'm sure we're hurt this year by losing three of our top contributors from last year's team.

Thanks! I phrased my question wrong though, what did they have our predicted record at? My bad!

I don't think you can go back and see that. Might have to look back through the Ramblermania archives to see if anyone posted it at the time.

Updated Kenpom rankings have us as the fourth best team in the Valley, finishing tied for 3rd place with a 10-8 record.

TeamRankings.com also has us at 20-11 overall, 4th in the MVC with a 10-8. I'm not sure, but I think the numbers for their "formula" comes from KenPom.com, via Gracenote. In this prediction scenario, we're tied with UNI for third if the numbers are rounded off.

https://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-baske ... rojections

This brings us to the tiebreaker system. In a one-on-one tie where the two teams split on the season, the RPI is the tiebreaker. We're in pretty good shape on this as we enter conference play at 108 in the RPI, only eight spots below UNI. In a multiple team tie, the RPI comes in after a mini round robin comparison of the regular season records. The tiebreaker used to be Strength of Schedule, but now it's actual RPI-- so it matters a little more if you win the games you play in the non-con.

We just sneaked into the top-100 in the Pomeroy ratings at number 98. We have the 68th best offense and 165th best defense (prior to the Drake game, we were a top 100 defense).

You know this is so weird to me that the stats show us to be a better offensive team than a defensive team. When you watch them play they seem to play such good defense and the offense seems sporadic at best. But Against Evansville,Evansville got a ton a baskets right at the rim, no rim protectors...I think this is why Kirby gets as much time as he does. Inside the top 100 gives me a good feeling...
