Small note on Illinois State... Deontae Hawkins was suspended from the team indefinitely yesterday for violating team rules. The redbirds forum has a lot to say/speculate on what happened; but it's a pretty big loss for them as one of their top 2 players. It also sounds like he lost a year of eligibility so this will now count as his senior year rather than junior due to NCAA qualification rules. While I still think they can hold a spot in the top 3, they will be more vulnerable if ISU upholds his suspension throughout the season.

The Pantagraph reports Hawkins was arrested for a DUI and driving on a suspended license.

It will be interesting to see how ISU handles this, given their history of misbehaving players.

Not just their history, but his history. He entered ISU with character concerns. He was sent home early from Spain and suspended last year.

My guess is Muller will sit him out for their exhibition game and have him active for Murray State.

It's the Redbird way.

Please excuse this comment BUT I must make it--A REPEATER DUI driver is who KILLED our son and three others PLUS himself--I find it difficult to forget.

ISU Must do the right thing with this second offender, if I read this correctly. I really hope SUBGOD is wrong in his critique of the REDBIRDS. That creep must GO.

My family lost a fine boy and VANDERBILT lost a great student !!

One of the things I have always admired about Brot is his attitude toward life.
I would never have handled such a tragedy as he has.
I admire your courage Brot!

I have zero tolerance for anyone guilty of DUI. ZERO. Especially in 2016 when you have a cell phone, ubers, cabs, etc. No respect, no tolerance and don't care to give them second chances.

But that's just me.

Thanks for the kind words Streak --DUI is absolutely the ONE thing that truly gets to me. Those words of yours I know are sincere and I truly appreciate them.

Things such as our Board, the MVC, our CUBS, the Cleveland Museum off Art, Severance Hall (Cle Symph) and above all My Family, my Pals My Faith and you guys are my anchor !!!

Its a funny thing--and gratifying as well--I have heard from old Pentagon Pals and even some from Elmendorf AFB, Camp Pendleton, Fts Benning and Hood --most are teasing me about now living in AKRON --CLE !! as it regards Baseball

THANKS !! and end of rant !!!

GO RAMBLERS !!

Hawkins also was charged with illegal transportation/carrying an open container of alcohol while driving, which either implies really bad judgement, or he also had others in the car.

Guys on the Redbird forum mentioned DJ Clayton and Milik Yarbrough. A quick search found Clayton was charged with 2 accounts of theft and underage consumption of alcohol. Yarbrough was only got charged with 1 account of theft. Clayton is a JUCO transfer, and Yarbrough has to sit out this year as a transfer from SLU.

Not sure if they were with Hawkins at the time, but it'll be interesting to see how these 2 are handled as transfers.

I don't know if he's ever had a DUI before, but I have little tolerance for such things.

I can't remember what he did to get sent home from Spain last year when ISU did a little Euro tour. But if you're getting sent home early from an overseas trip you had to have done something pretty dumb. I want to say vandalism of some kind. Maybe while intoxicated. But I'm not 100 on that and am too lazy to look it up.
