I thought Loyola would need to win the next 5 games (really 6 b/c the 5th is mid week) for other receiving votes. Since it happened earlier than I thought the next 5 wins would almost guarantee you a top 25 ranking. The one vote is huge because it puts us on the radar. Beat UIC and you stay in the "others" column likely with more votes. Getting that first ORV is the hardest. Now the other voters see us listed and it helps us in my opinion get to the top 25 quicker. Still think we need 5 wins (really 6 because the 5th comes mid week UNI). Maybe 4 wins gets you there, but 6 for sure.

Here's a list of the voters in the AP poll:

My guess is that it was the guy from the Daily Herald or the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel who voted for us.

I'm going to say Steve Wiseman of the Durham Herald-Sun.

Even if it's just one reporter wanting to stir the pot, the buzz alone is worth it. If we want more people to come to games, get people talking about the team. Now then, the question is will the Chicago sports reporters mention it (especially the ones who are Loyola grads)?

That's funny... I own a copy of The Last Amateurs, and used it for reference when I was writing about Loyola's 1963 season. (He wrote in it about how Pitt's Chancellor J. Dennis O'Connor was deeply affected by Loyola's '63 team while he was attending LU).

Ah, well too bad it's Feinstein. He'll probably vote someone else 25th next week no matter what we do. Our gallantry notwithstanding.

Yeah, I think you're right. This was a random courtesy vote, because of our history and respectable record at this point. If he saw us play, it was at that NC State game... he just wrote a book about the three major North Carolina coaches of the '80s.
