picked up WLUW , the campus radio station on the way home. Coach was supposed to be on but no-showed. They had the ESPNU analyst on who called the game. He was talking mid-majors and revealed that Gonzaga spends 8 million on basketball alone and Wichita State spends 5.5 million. I think we figured out that LU spends 3mil on the whole athletic budget. Do not know all the ins and outs but how does Gonzaga who I always consider oranges and oranges with us get away with 8mil? You can win without being the biggest spender but do not think it does not make a difference in a multitude of ways.
PS,,,WLUW is a really good radio app and station if you like to hear lots of independent new music.

First, Gonzaga has been to 18 consecutive NCAA tournaments, and they have gone to the Sweet 16 seven times in that span. They've also been to the Elite 8 twice. That's a lot of revenue for their program and their conference.

Second, Gonzaga sells out their arena of 6,000 every game, season after season, and their ticket prices are considerably higher than ours. Here is a page where you can sign up to be on the Gonzaga season ticket waiting list, and here is a Stub Hub link where you can buy tickets to Gonzaga's Feb. 25 game against BYU for $575. A large part of their budget (and the same for WSU) is the coach's salary. Google says Mark Few makes $1.4 million and Gregg Marshall makes $3.3. Our budget is effectively smaller than the reported $2.8 mil because of us being in a more expensive market, where outside media and salaries are (or need to be) higher.

Yes, the WLUW app is great, and I am happy that we've got a broadcast and an audio link now. Hagedorn is very good-- I think we could do a lot more with his talent.

Just so you know, Porter came out to the table to do the post game interview, but it was WLUW that made the call not to have him on. I just don't want anyone thinking that Porter "no-showed" his radio obligation.

JCT thanks good explanation. What came first? the money or the success? what is their success story? Is it a blueprint that we can follow?
B. You should have a talk with WLUW cuz they simply said that Coach would not be on the show and they had a half hour to kill?

I can have a talk with WLUW, but they are the ones that told us that Porter would not be on post-game when he went out to do the post-game interview.
